General Information

Application Procedures

for Students Working Toward a Degree, Diploma, or Certificate

• A Wilson Community College application should be completed and forwarded to the Admissions Office along with an official high school transcript(s). Official college transcripts to be reviewed for possible transfer credit must be

forwarded to the Registrars’ Office.

• Placement Testing should be completed as soon as possible. Acceptable transfer credit in math, English, and reading, may exempt you from the placement test.

NOTE: ALL applicants MUST complete placement testing unless exempt by previous transfer credits and/or qualifying SAT/ACT scores or high school coursework.

• Please contact Student Development, (252) 246-1276, for placement testing scheduling. Placement testing is free. ID required. No placement testing will be scheduled during the week of August 17-21.

• When all items above are complete, an interview with an Admissions Counselor will be scheduled in person, by phone, or through Skype to complete

the admissions process.

Financial Aid Process

---The process by which curriculum students seek federal and/or state financial aid all begins with submission of a FAFSA application…but the process is far from simple. FAFSA applicants must recognize that complete and accurate informa-tion is only the first in many steps toward approval. Approximately half of all FAFSA applications are randomly chosen for “verification”, a process of submitting documentation to prove the data submitted on the FAFSA. Though acceptance to an eligible program of study at the College is a necessary step in the finan-cial aid approval process, admissions and finanfinan-cial aid approval are two separate processes. All FA applicants are strongly encouraged to begin the FA approval process 4-6 weeks prior to the beginning of a new academic term or year. If your financial aid file at Wilson Community College is not complete by Tuesday, August 4, you should make alternate plans to pay tuition and fees. We will continue to process financial aid applications after August 4, but we cannot guarantee your financial aid award will be available to pay tuition and fees by the deadline.

Financial Aid Enrollment Eligibility Policy

---Per federal regulations, student enrollment status for financial aid purposes is based on enrollment in eligible courses required in the student’s chosen primary program of study plus limited necessary remedial coursework. Exceptions must be approved by the Dean of Student Development prior to regular registration. Federal and state mandated changes to financial aid eligibility rules are posted on college website.

Programs of Instruction

---The educational opportunities of the College are organized into the following instructional programs:

Associate Degree Programs

Business, health-related, public service and engineering technology curricula are designed to prepare graduates with a high level of technical competence, and effective human relations and communication skills. Upon completion, students are awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree.

Diploma/Certificate Programs

The College offers a number of programs which are designed to train people for entrance into skilled occupations. These programs vary in length, depending upon the desired level of skills and proficiency required. Diplomas are awarded for completion of a program of three or more semesters in length. Certificates are awarded upon completion of one to two semester programs.

(continued)

(6)

The College Transfer Program

The College Transfer Program includes courses in the arts and sciences and leads to an Associate in Arts Degree (A.A.), an Associate in Science Degree (A.S.), or a Transfer Core Diploma. Transfer courses parallel those required dur-ing the first two years of study at four-year colleges and universities and credits earned may transfer to any college and university that offers equivalent courses.

Special Credit Students

Special Credit Students are students who enroll for course credit but are not pursuing a diploma or degree at Wilson Community College. Students who com-plete 13 semester hours are encouraged to declare a major and be admitted to a program. Students must show documentation that they meet all course prereq-uisites and coreqprereq-uisites.

Tuition and Fees

---Note: All tuition and fees listed are anticipated!

Tuition and fees are subject to change by act of the N. C. General Assembly. In-State Students:

Full-Time (12) $864.00 Part-time $72.00

Plus credit hours per semester plus fees per credit hour plus fees

Out-of-State Students:

Full-Time (12) $3168.00 Part-time $264.00

Plus credit hours per semester plus fees per credit hour plus fees

Student Fees

$2.18 per credit hour $34.88 maximum (16 credit hours or more)

The student fee covers accident insurance and student activities for students enrolled in curriculum courses. Accident insurance covers students while in class and coming to/going from campus by the most direct route.

All curriculum students must pay a $15.00 security/parking fee and a $20.00 technology fee per semester. Some academic programs have costs in addition to tuition, fees, and books. For more information regarding additional costs in your academic area of interest, contact Student Development, (252) 246-1276.

Payment

Payment of tuition and fees is due for early registration by July 29 at 4:00 p.m. and payment for tuition and fees for regular registration is due on the same day you register for classes. All students who register online through WebAdvisor will be able to pay their tuition and fees online as well. The College accepts cash, money orders, checks, VISA, and MasterCard in person and accepts checks and money orders through the mail. Payments by third parties must be supported by written documentation. Please allow extra time for mailed payments, as all payment deadlines must be met. Tips on Scheduling Courses

---1. Know and follow your program requirements.

Review course requirements for your program each semester, noting prerequisites. requisite information can be found in the back of your catalog under course descriptions.

2. See your advisor each semester.

A departmental advisor has the most up-to-date information about your program area. Consultation with an advisor will help ensure that you have the information needed for successful completion of your program.

3. Take an ACA course in your first semester.

Take an ACA course as soon as possible to reap the benefits of the course. This is the best way to learn how to navigate electronic resources available on campus such as Moodle, GroupWise, and WebAdvisor.

4. Plan ahead!

Complete the course schedule worksheet prior to registering for courses with your advisor. Good preparation will save you time.
