Little Screech Owl offered to go and get the fire. Screech Owl flew to the burning tree. The flames had created a lot of smoke. All that smoke went straight into his eyes. His eyes became red and he couldn't see well. He, too, returned to the waiting animals without the much needed fire. Horned Owl and Hoot Owl flew to the island together. But the fire was still burning fiercely and the smoke and ashes from it blinded both the owls and made rings around their eyes.

At the mean time, the fox was out in search of food, leaving the cubs behind. As the eagle neared the tree, one of the fox cubs poked its head out of the hole in the ground. In a flash, the eagle swooped down, killed the cub and took it to her nest. She gave the meat to her babies and they ate it happily.
