Beauty.

P TERRY KING M ROSA BRIGHID

It’s not a standard.

It’s an experience.

Only you can

rescue your own

experience of

 human beauty.

Throughout history, images of humanity have been

celebrated by the arts. But in the glossy pages of

most magazines and commercial culture, images of

humanity are being used to systematically bombard

us with exploitative messages about beauty.

We find ourselves swimming in a bottomless ocean of

lies and manipulation. Our natural desire to appreciate

beauty in ourselves and each other is being leveraged

by unloving, impersonal agendas to sell you products

and ideas. Beauty has become a standard.

Meanwhile, artistic and respectful images of nude

humanity are blocked, banned, marginalized

and misunderstood. This cultural bias is so

pervasive that we lose sight of the miraculous

beauty found within each and every one of us.

Hypnotic pressure to conform to meaningless

fabricated standards has us turning against

each other, and against ourselves. Instead

of celebrating the full spectrum of human

beauty, we judge what we see in the mirror and

blame others for making us feel this way.

Within the pages of Model Society Magazine, the

best and most creative models, photographers

and artists in the world are coming together

to restore human beauty to its rightful place

as a subject of fine art contemplation.

Our humanity, when portrayed as art, has the

power to help us appreciate and explore the

depths of our shared human experience. When

we see ourselves through the eyes of art we have

an opportunity to realize our unique individuality

as well as our transcendent oneness.

We invite you to break free from the cultural

hypnosis of beauty standards and reclaim your

experience of human beauty as your own.

We hope you will allow yourself to look upon

each work of art within these pages with new

eyes, reconsidering your own unique humanity

as a beautiful and miraculous work of art.

REVEALING

Commercial culture can seem like a bully, threatening to beat you

up with rejection and ridicule if you dare to reveal your honest self.

But, the reality is that nothing is more beautiful than an unfiltered

expression of who and what you really are. One look at these models

and you’ll see a beauty that transcends fabricated standards and

definitions. The light that shines from these pages is something we all

can embody, the moment we allow our authentic selves to be seen.

Help us stand up to the bully of commercial culture. When

you see a flash of authenticity shining on someone’s face,

let them know. In joy, sadness, gratitude or vulnerability,

acknowledge and validate the beauty of someone’s unfiltered

self whenever and wherever you see it shining.

Bring beauty into the world by simply

allowing your honest self to be seen.

MCATHERINE HAMILTON

“Every beauty which is seen here by persons of

perception resembles more than anything else

that celestial source from which we all come.”

Artists throughout the ages have been celebrated

for creating accurate and inspiring portrayals of

the human form. In paintings and sculpture, the

elegant proportions of the human body are

recognized for their miraculous beauty. We put

great artists on pedestals for their genius, but

often fail to recognize that these great artists

are putting you, me and all of humanity on

a pedestal. These transcendent works of

art are attempts to immortalize, celebrate

and appreciate the miracle of the human

body as it already is: perfectly formed …

living and breathing … as you and me.

As you experience these images,

we invite you to consider the

perspective of the artist, rather

than the work of art alone. Climb

up on the pedestal of human

beauty and imagine yourself as

seen through the eyes of art.

Imagine the lines and forms

of your own body seen as

a miracle, worthy of study,

contemplation, exploration

and appreciation.

EMOTIONALLY

Looking around at everyone’s seemingly

enviable circumstances, you may

sometimes wonder if you are the

only one who is hurting, scared, lost,

suffering or feeling alone. It can seem

like it’s not safe to pull back the glossy

mask of presentation and share the

challenging truths of our humanity.

When we embrace the truth of our

naked humanity, there is an opportunity

for us to celebrate one another as

beautiful, even during life’s most difficult

moments. Within these pages, the

brave models of Model Society reveal

genuine glimpses of wounded humanity

so you can see that you are not alone.

 Let’s welcome vulnerable

 humanity out from the

 shadows and into the

light of acceptance.

P PAUL WILLIAMSON M KATLYN LACOSTE

In social news feeds, we see images of happy people living

happy lives. Celebrities, success and smiling selfies would

have you think that life is great and could hardly get any

better. Commercial culture has turned us all into advertisers

who portray our lives through a public relations filter.

mask of presentation and share the

challenging truths of our humanity.

When we embrace the truth of our

naked humanity, there is an opportunity

for us to celebrate one another as

beautiful, even during life’s most difficult

moments. Within these pages, the

brave models of Model Society reveal

genuine glimpses of wounded humanity

so you can see that you are not alone.

 Let’s welcome vulnerable

 humanity out from the

 shadows and into the

light of acceptance.

P PAUL WILLIAMSON M KATLYN LACOSTE

In social news feeds, we see images of happy people living

happy lives. Celebrities, success and smiling selfies would

have you think that life is great and could hardly get any

better. Commercial culture has turned us all into advertisers

who portray our lives through a public relations filter.

BEAUTIFULLY

The masculine. He is our father. Our son.

Our brother. You may experience him as a

brave warrior and an ambitious leader. And

if you look, you will also find him as a lost

soul on a lonely city street corner. We praise

men for being strong, hard-working and

successful. He is told not to cry. He is told

not to reach out for comfort or reassurance.

He is told not to ask for help or to allow

himself to be seen as unsure. He is told

not to tremble or shrink from danger. He

is even told not to sing for joy. When he

manages to climb up on the pedestal of

respect and appreciation, he finds that it’s

narrow, lonely and precarious. Through it

all, he longs to be needed and to realize

a sense of purpose and belonging.

The men of Model Society offer us an

experience of the masculine that transcends

cultural pressures. They encourage us to

see men as far more than the expectations

or roles we have placed upon them.

They stand naked before us, revealing

their strength and their vulnerability.

INTRINSICALLY

Our nightly dreams, the childhood stories we grew up learning,

and even the structure of our language help us see that all our

experiences are steeped in symbolic associations.

This pervasive matrix of implied meaning is leveraged by models, photographers

and artists to convey subtle and powerful messages. They create images that

bypass the rational mind, speaking directly to our hearts and souls. They tell

stories that appeal to our hopes and our fears. Even as they share individual

visions, they also reveal universal truths about the human condition.

`

The models, photographers and artists of Model Society invite you

to look beneath the surface of things. Consider how the symbols and

metaphors within someone else’s imagination can illuminate the otherwise

hidden associations through which you experience your own life.

UPLIFTING

It’s easy for people to look at an image of a sunset or beautiful landscape and

behold the majesty of nature. Yet when looking at images of people, experiences

of beauty are often obscured by judgments about each other or ourselves.

We invite you to experience images of people, simply and directly, as if you

were viewing a stunning landscape. Can you let yourself be impacted by what

nature made, exactly as it is? How exquisitely beautiful and natural the human

body truly is when it is viewed as one of nature’s many elegant creations.
