HELPING TO STOP SPREAD COVID-19

Public Health England published new general guidance on Tuesday 2nd February about how to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We know how hard all of you are working to protect each other and it is vital that as a school community, that every single one of us works to support the government strategy in preventing the spread of this virus.

RIVERBOATS HOLIDAY CLUB

During this lockdown, the government has advised that schools are not expected to remain open to vulnerable/critical worker children over the February half-term week. We will therefore not be running our holiday club during the February half-term. There is also some maintenance work that has to be done to our building which has to be done over the Easter Holiday.

It is hopeful that our holiday club will be able to open back up from the Half Term week of 1st to 4th June and during the Summer. We look forward to a time when school is less impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

CONTACT TRACING

Can we please remind you if your child tests positive for COVID at any time during the weekend; please inform us via

the 'info@' email address. This will assist us in identifying any close contacts and advise of any self-isolation required,

in the event that your child may have been infectious whilst in school.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

A good community spirit can bind families and friends together in safeguarding those who are most vulnerable in

society. It is the job of all adults to further that protection to children and make sure that no harm can ever come to any child.

By participating in a community, you are part of a larger support network that is naturally vigilant of any abuse or

neglect, ensuring that children are not put in harm’s way. If you ever find yourself in the position where you may

become concerned for a child’s welfare, please use the contact details below to report your concerns.

If you have reason to believe that a child, young person or adult is at immediate risk from harm contact the Police: 999.

If you have any concerns about a child or young person living in Worcestershire and feel that they may be in need of

protection or safeguarding contact the Family Front Door. Staff are available Monday to Thursday from 9.00am to

5.00pm and Fridays from 9.00am to 4.30pm. Telephone: 01905 822666.

RECEPTION - SPACE TOPIC

In Reception class we have been continuing our Space topic. We read 'Aliens Love Underpants', written by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, which we all found very funny.

We also practiced writing our names using our looped precursive handwriting style, and then wrote our names backwards to discover our alien names!, drawn pictures of

ourselves as aliens, designed our own planets and used adjectives to describe these, and

wehad a go at finding the rhyming words in the Aliens Love Underpants story. We also had a go at creating symmetrical underpants, made 2d rockets out of different shapes, and made our own solar systems after doing some research about the different planets.

YEAR ONE - SENSES

In Year one this week we have been working on James and the Giant Peach.

The children have been using their senses to describe the home within the

peach and came up with some fantastic adjectives. They thought about

whether they would like to live inside such a strange house and then

considered what strange places people could live in.

YEAR THREE - PERSUASIVE LANGUAGE

This week, Year three have been looking at persuasive language. They have focussed

on a film called 'The Little Shoe Maker'. Throughout the week, the children have

learnt about using different techniques like creating logos and slogans and using

emotive language, to sell things. They also really enjoyed recording their own TV and

radio adverts.

YEAR FOUR

Lauryn has created a fantastic non chronological report on Mount

Olympus. She has used an excellent layout, including subheadings,

paragraphs and some superb pictures. This report is filled with fabulous

facts and I really enjoyed reading it and learning all about this majestic mountain. Well done Lauryn!

Mrs Moroni would like to say:

"Thank you very much for your kind messages to mark my anniversary of 25 years teaching at Upton. I was really touched by the videos that some of you sent in (as well as those by colleagues past and present, of course!) and I love reading and rereading the comments in the album given me last Friday. Thank you for your continued support, which means so much."
