Opportunities for Registered Nurses

Less than 6-12 months of RN experience. Level I

A minimum of 6-12 months of RN experience. Assumes the charge nurse role, actively participates in unit/service activities, supports co-workers and assesses unit needs.

Level II

A minimum of 3 years RN experience. Ability to utilize expert skill and knowledge to deliver nursing care, direct others and assume the role as a care coordinator or preceptor.

Level III

A Minimum of 5 years of RN experience and a BSN or matriculation in a BSN progam. Is a member of the unit/service leadership team. Demonstrates ability to develop standards of care, unit/service goals and objectives and provide consultation and expertise in delivering patient care.

Pediatric Nursing

Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED) - Registered Nurse-Level II (184253)

The Peds ED offers family centered care to those under the age of 19, seeking care for urgent and emergent issues. The unit is comprised of 18 general care beds, 1 critical care bed, 4 urgent care beds and the use of the 7 bed trauma bay which we share with the adult ED. The tertiary care offered at GCHaS has a complex case mix. From treat and release to acute critical care/trauma the staff are trained to function in a fast paced and challenging environment. Minimum of one year experience in pediatric acute care or ED experience. Provide direct care to pediatric patients/families in a fast paced collaborative

environment. Demonstrates good interpersonal skills, strong prioritization and organizational skills, flexibility and clinical competence.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) 41800 - Registered Nurse-Level I - II (184267) FT positions available, D/E/N, 8 and 12 hour shifts, holidays and weekends per unit standard.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) seeks motivated individuals with a passion for caring for critically ill children and their families. The ideal candidates demonstrate critical thinking, ability to adapt in a rapidly changing patient population, and exceptional communication with patients, families and colleagues from all disciplines. The PICU nurse will become an expert at providing care to a wide variety of patient conditions from infancy to adolescence. Diagnoses include, but are not limited to, complex medical conditions (respiratory failure, sepsis, and multisystem organ dysfunction), pre and post operative conditions, multiple trauma including neurologic compromise, as well as children needing acute management of chronic illnesses. The PICU nurse balances the high technologic needs of critically ill patients with the holistic needs of children and their families.

The pediatric transport program is seeking ambitious, independent pediatric critical care nurses for the role of pediatric transport nurse. The program provides interfacility transport of critically ill children from outlying hospitals in the Upstate NY region to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. In addition, the transport nurse is an essential resource for the entire pediatric service by providing advanced intravenous access, phlebotomy, urgent and emergent response programs, and support for pediatric trauma patients, throughout the Children’s Hospital. The transport program offers ongoing continuing education, opportunities for advancement, certification and educational outreach. The full time position is split, 24 hours per week in the transport role, 12 hours a week in the applicant’s preferred unit: Pediatric Cardiac Care Center, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, or Pediatric Emergency Department. Experienced nurses only. Three years of pediatric critical care experience preferred; combined relevant experiences will be considered.

The Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program is comprised of interdisciplinary clinical teams-serving patients across the lifespan with psychiatric mental health conditions. This 22 bed adult psychiatry unit admits persons ages 18-60 who are in need of intensive psychiatric stabilization. Telepsych - Psychiatry - Registered Nurse-Level III (190754) FT position available (40 hours), Monday- Friday, 8am-5pm

The Telepsych Program provides psychiatric consultation-liaison to patients residing in hospital and long-term care settings across New York State via innovative technology. The Telepsych nurse will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, and will assume the role of care coordinator for this given group of patients, monitoring, evaluating, and documenting patients’ responses to care. This nurse will act as the primary liaison between referring community providers, and the Telepsych provider team. Will provide teaching to community providers and nursing staff regarding medication management, side effects, health promotion and relapse

Must have excellent computer skills and an ability to learn and understand the general technical requirements for the telemedicine systems.
