Vocational Training

What sorts of qualifications are there?

There are qualifications that are either specific to early years care and education or playwork and they are available at different levels. These levels indicate the type of job that you do, and the level of seniority at which you can work.

Guide to levels available:-

♦ Level 2 for people with no managerial responsibility

♦ Level 3 for those who work under their own initiative, planning and organising their own work and supervising others

♦ Level 4 for experienced practitioners, who carry out complex and non-routine tasks, for those in a managerial role in a large or multiple settings, or for those with

responsibility for quality assurance in a number of settings.

There are different ways of gaining qualifications

♦ In the workplace

♦ At a college of further education (FE College) ♦ In community settings

♦ Distance learning ♦ Part-time

NVQ2, NVQ3 Early Years Care and Education

Please note these courses have been replaced with the NVQ in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD). The CCLD covers children from 0 – 16 years. Detailed information can be found on the CACHE website at www.cache.org.uk or alternatively more information can be found in the Additional Information section of this brochure.

Level 2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD)

is made up of 7 units – 6 mandatory units and 1 option unit. It is necessary to complete all 7 units to achieve the full certificate.

Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development (CCLD)

is made up of 9 units – 5 mandatory units and 4 option unit. It is necessary to complete all 9 units to achieve the full certificate.

Guidance to Funding and Application Process

• EYC has an agreement with Newbury College enabling courses on offer to be more cost effective. However, should a candidate wish to pursue training with another provider a copy of the course prospectus and costings must be submitted with your application form

• For all courses please complete and return Vocational Training Application form (see page 62) • Decisions regarding funding will only be made on completed applications forms. No agreement for

funding will be made over the telephone or by email • Please note closing dates for course applications

• Upon receipt of a completed application a letter of acknowledgement will be sent

• For level 3 courses it may be necessary for candidates to attend an interview and a basic skills test • The EYC office will notify you if there is sufficient interest for the course to run and a proposed

start date

• If successful in your application you will be asked to sign a Training Agreement form and make a contribution towards the cost of the course
