signature office tower, the Morsani College of

Medicine and Heart Institute, and an adjoining

office building to house health

industry-related businesses.

Heart Institute: ROI from integration of

research with teaching and patient care

• USF Cardiology faculty increased 5-fold in two years

and we are adding 5 top heart and lung transplant

surgeons over the next 12 to 24 months.

• TGH already has one of the busiest cardiac transplant,

cardiac surgery and invasive cardiology programs in

U.S. but needs greater academic productivity to be a

top 10 U.S. News - ranked program.

• We now need to recruit 20 NIH funded physician &

basic cardiovascular scientists.

• Since physician scientists NEED to be close to both

their labs and clinical sites, the new USF Heart Institute

will be the perfect recruitment tool.

CAMLS: Training, Research and Innovation

• Close proximity of CAMLS to the new

medical school will greatly improve

medical student teaching using the

world’s most sophisticated simulation

equipment and trainers.

• Move downtown enhances access to the

CAMLS Innovation Center, which utilizes

multidisciplinary teams of healthcare

providers and biomedical engineers to

assist medical device companies in the

entire device lifecycle.
