August / September 2021 Event Guide

Note: Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in the area, upcoming programs for September have been updated

(8/13/21). Some program changes may include: small in-person class sizes, registration required, program moved to a virtual platform, or have been postponed. Review updated guide to see updates!

Library Card Sign-Up Month is throughout the month of September to celebrate an amazing back-to-school resource that is FREE for all residents of Bay, Gulf, and Liberty Counties! Check out books, audiobooks, DVDs, eBooks, ukuleles, dulcimers, cake pans, telescopes, and more at any Northwest Regional Library System (NWRLS) location.

From Seed to Salad Kits will be available while supplies last at the Bay County Public Library, Panama City Beach Public Library, and Parker Public Library through the month of September with your library card in partnership with the UF/IFAS Bay County Extension Office. Kits include easy to grow Fall varieties: lettuce, carrots, kale, radishes, and arugula.

Visit the year-round Seed Libraries at the Corrine Costin Gibson Memorial Public Library in Port St. Joe and the Charles Whitehead Public Library in Wewahitchka (starting in September). All you need is your library card to pick up five seed packets each month!

All Northwest Regional Library System locations will be CLOSED on Monday, September 6th for Labor Day.

Virtual Library Programming

Virtual Library programs will be released on a specific date/time through our library Facebook pages or on the Northwest Regional Library System FL YouTube channel.

Zoom programs require pre-registration.

Recycled Book Club: Hanging Book Fern Tuesday, August 24th at 2 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. ET Create a Hanging Fern out of a recycled book.

Disaster Recovery Legal Clinic

Wednesday, August 25th from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Legal Services of North Florida will be in the library meeting room to assist clients experiencing civil legal issues, with an emphasis on Hurricane Michael. First come, first served.

Abandoned Northwest Florida Tuesday, September 21st at 4 p.m.

Learn about the photography of Kim Mixon Hill that captures abandoned locations in Northwest Florida and post-Hurricane Michael. Program is limited in size to 15 total for social distancing. Masks are encouraged. First come, first served.

My Journey with Alzheimer's Tuesday, September 28th at 2 p.m.

Katy Mackay shares practical tips and creative coping mechanisms that might help your journey when

Country Scavenger Hunt

September is Library Card Sign Up Month! This year’s theme is diversity, so try out the scavenger hunt set up in Youth Services and learn amazing facts about other countries! There will be a small prize for those who complete it.

Teen Programs

Anime Club (12 - 18 years) Tuesday, September 14th at 4 p.m.

This is a screen-free club, meaning that we won't be watching anime. Instead, talk about your favorite

anime/manga with fellow fans, participate in fun activities, and learn about Japanese culture! Registration is

required. Please stop by or call Youth Services at 850-522- 2118.

Teen Advisory Board (14 - 18 years) Tuesday, September 28th at 4 p.m.

Want to have a say at your library? Want to earn volunteer hours? Want to make crafts, play games, and eat snacks?

Join the Teen Advisory Board! Registration is required.

Children's August Raffle

All members are invited to join us for our monthly meeting.

Teen and Young Adult Program

Shakespeare Society

Saturdays, September 11th and 18th from 12:30 - 2 p.m. EST

A monthly meeting of teenagers and young adults to read and appreciate the literary works of William Shakespeare. Hosted

by the Port St. Joe Public Library, the Shakespeare Society will meet on the second and third Saturdays. The Shakespeare Society will begin with a reading of the bard's 1623 play, Julius Caesar. Future choices will be determined

by the group. Pre-registration limited to ten individuals.
