GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE

ADMINISTRATOR’S CORNER

MEMBERSHIP

PRELATE

NEW MEMBERS

I am pleased to relay to you that at the Moose International Convention in Nashville, the Dale City Lodge won the Silver Medal Award. It should be noted that only one other lodge from our District won one. The thanks go to you, the members, who made the award possible. Thank you so much.

Work on the building improvement is coming along with some expected delays due to some County concerns but the delay(s) should be minimal. I expect work to start soon. We have requested that the contractor cause the least disruptions as possible and, as such, we will post a construction time line as soon as the construction plan is approved by the committee.

Mike Toomey Governor

We were awarded a “Superior” rating by Moose International for the second half of last year for family activities.

We ran into a snag with the County about obtaining a permit for our deck but we are working on it. The contractor has ordered the materials for the inside work. All we need is a construction permit. Thanks to Kim Stephens for getting the ball rolling.

Thanks to Gerry Massey for repairing the pool sticks.

We were awarded the “Premium Award” at the International Convention.

Don O’Connor Administrator

We have a quota of 84 for the upcoming year and have already signed up 36 new members. “The Time is Now” is the new theme for this year and Moose has announced that every member who signs up two members in a year will have their dues paid for them.

It’s another incentive to sign up friends and neighbors.

Todd Palmer Membership

On July 15 , Specialist-4 Sarah Hughes, US Army,th daughter of John and Cissy Newman, was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan. Our wishes for a safe and successful deployment go out to Sarah. We ask each of you to keep Sarah in your thoughts and prayers while she is on deployment. We thank Sarah for her selfless dedication to our country and look forward to her safe return home.

We send out our wishes for full and speedy recoveries to Jimmy Wagnon, Brenda Sigmon, Jesse Rogers, and Casy Leiz following their recent hospitalizations.

Our condolences go out to Jim Fugate on the recent loss of his father-in-law. We ask that you keep Jim and his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

As always, I am providing you with my contact information and ask that you feel free to contact me should you hear of a member or a member’s family that may be in need of support from out lodge. Contacting me will also allow me to keep the membership informed of illnesses and distress within our Moose family.

There are many people who contributed to the July 4 float. The theme was America’s Independence Day and we combinedth the Declaration of Independence, America’s Freedoms, and our thanks to our troops. Once again we received a trophy for the float and one for the walkers. I’d like to acknowledge those who worked so hard for our success: Laura Terrell, Teri and Vicki McCormick, Janet and Katie Waters, Cindy O’Connor, Stephenie Collins, Bob Moore, Justin Moriarity, Mary Crawford, Jason Bauman, Peggy Ratcliff, Jeanie Meyer, Brian Truslow, Mark “Coach” Kidd, Keith Thompson and the children. Once again the members did a fantastic job.

The women would like to congratulate our Governor, Mike Toomey, who received his Fellowship for the Moose Legion in Nashville. Congratulations to Cindy O’Connor! She received her Green Cap in Richmond. Cindy, our Chapter would not be as successful without your leadership. We’re so proud of both of you!

Our Welcome Reception was a hit! Thanks to all the new members and their sponsors for coming out. Thanks to the kitchen crew who prepared the barbequed ribs.

We will begin selling raffle tickets for the Back-to-School Backpacks. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Tickets will be sold until August 18 . The Children’s Fashion Show sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Please sign up to participate in the worthwhile event.

Proceeds will go to Children’s Cancer Research. We need children of all ages and adults to help with the preparation. Infants and toddlers can be accompanied on the runway with a parent. The date is Saturday, September 18 , at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be soldth at the door for $5.00. There will be door prizes. Please attend and help our children and those children who have been stricken with this dreadful disease.

The Penny Party is scheduled on October 19 at 7:30 p.m. This is a great time! We will need volunteers to cut penniesth before then. A box will be placed in the lodge. Please donate any items that are new or “gently used” for this event. No clothing, please. Often times we set things aside that we don’t need and forget that we have them. Please take time to look and help us to make this an exciting evening.

Burt joined Dale City Lodge #2165 in the spring of 2009 when many of us from Neabsco Beach did. He loved the lodge and the people and, had he lived closer than Arlington, he would have been here much more frequently.

Unfortunately, we lost Burt on June 19, 2010 to a water- related incident. He loved the water–whether boating, fishing, being at Tim’s River Shore, or just sitting and admiring it. He owned many boats over the years.

While he will be sorely missed by his loving family and many, many friends, a lot of us feel the fashion in which he left us was in keeping with how he would have preferred to go.
