+ Mary Vander Logt, 93, a charter member of the parish, mother of parishioner Pat (Carl) Landwehr, and grandmother of parishioner Chad (Stephanie) Vander Logt, passed away on June 29, and was accorded Christian burial here on July 2. Mary and her husband, Pete, loved traveling through the U.S. and spending winters in Mission, Texas. She also enjoyed working in her garden and was a volunteer at Rennes Nursing Home.

Mary’s family looked forward to the welcoming smell of her homemade bread when they came to visit. She is also survived by seven other children and their spouses,

grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by Pete and a grandson.

Missionary Cooperation Appeal

This weekend, Fr. Luis Carol De Leon Perez, a priest of the Missionary Fraternity of Mary in Milwaukee, will be visiting OLOL for the annual diocesan Missionary Cooperation Appeal.

Fr. Luis Carlos was born in Mazatenango in Guatemala.

He was ordained a priest in 1990 and has served in mission in the U. S., Guatemala, and Italy. He worked for the Diocese of Wilmington, Delaware, ministering to migrant workers, served as pastor of St. Fr. Luis Pastores Parish in Antigua, Guatemala, and of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Parish in the Diocese of La Spezia, Italy. In addition, Fr.

Luis Carlos served as the Prefect of Formation at the semi- nary of the Missionary Fraternity of Mary in Guatemala City, where he was elected Vicar General of the Society. He speaks Spanish, English, and Italian.

A second collection will be held at all Masses to benefit the Missionary Cooperation Appeal. Thank you for your generosity.

Funeral Lunch Ladies Thank You

Achten, Mary Butler, Sandy Fitzgerald, Jean Gilson, Jean Hoes, Virginia LaCrosse, Joy Nowak, Nancy Reck, Ann Roemaat, Bonnie Sanders, Bev Schott, Dar Smet, Terry Stansfield, and Sharon Witcpalek. May God bless you for your kindness!

No Need to Check An Extra Bag

In the Gospel reading for this weekend (Mk 6:7-13), Jesus sends his apostles out two by two to preach repentance. He tells them that they are to go out with only a walking stick, a tunic, and sandals on their feet. They are to take nothing else with them, no bag or money, not even a second tunic if it would get cold at night. He also told them to stay in the house they are welcomed in, and if not welcomed, they are to shake the dust from their feet in testimony against them.

All of us are on a journey of some sort in this life. We all have different paths that we take in our careers, our ministries, and our callings. The Apostles, even though they didn’t have a physical bag to take along, had baggage that they carried around. Like us, they had their past lives to deal with. For some, the baggage is welcomed, while for others, the baggage we carry around we would rather leave behind. Why do you think Jesus told them to basically take nothing with them? Perhaps it was to prepare them for the journey that all of us will need to take someday. The journey from this life to eternal life.

Recently, I had the honor and privilege to preside and preach at the funeral of a young woman who had been dealing with a cancer diagnosis for well over a year. The first time I met with her several months ago, I asked her how she felt about what she was dealing with and her response to me was, “I accept that I have cancer, that I am dying, and I am not going to let it dictate how I am going to live out the rest of my life.” Each time meeting with her, she still had that positive attitude that I hope I have someday when my dying time comes. A week before her passing, I saw her for the last time in the hospital and knowing her time was close, I asked her if she had any fears. And I could see she was thinking and then she said, “I really am not afraid.” Again, the way I hope to respond some day. For her, any baggage that she might have had was all left behind. She wasn’t taking anything negative along with her. She had the opportunity to get rid of the baggage and focus on her future life in heaven.

We don’t need to wait until we have a terminal diagnosis to get rid of baggage. We can all get rid of it well ahead of time. Mend the bridges we have burned, let go of past hurts, forgive whatever or whomever needs forgiving. Don’t let the baggage you might carry dictate how you are going to live the rest of your life. None one should have to pay extra to check another bag.

God bless, Deacon Mike

Help Us Celebrate Christmas in July!

The Christmas Store Project is celebrating Christmas in July. Please help us get an early start on “stocking the store” for our low income/at-risk families in De Pere. The items will be distributed in December. The following is a short list of most-needed items.

 Week 1: Bath towels and wash cloths

 Week 2: Cleaning supplies

 Week 3: Laundry and dish detergent

 Week 4: Kitchen items (i.e. can opener, sharp knives, kitchen towels, bakeware, cooking utensils)

Please put items in the Christmas decorated box in the Gathering Area.

Thank you for your generosity in helping our needy brothers and sisters in Christ. If you have any questions, please call Jean at (920) 336-7848 or Donna at (920) 337-0905.

Watch for sales and Happy Shopping!

EPH Board Member Needed

Our Lady of Lourdes has been a strong supporter of Ecumenical Partnership for housing for many years. EPH helps homeless families and those at risk of eviction achieve self-sufficiency. OLOL’s current board member, Deacon Mike, is leaving the board in August, and we’re

looking for a new board member to represent OLOL.

Responsibilities are to represent OLOL at monthly board meetings, to serve as a communications channel between EPH and OLOL, and to attend one monthly committee meeting of your choice. For more information, contact Deacon Mike at deaconmike@lourdesdepere.org or parishioner Pat Hopkins (also EPH Executive Director) at patrickh@ephgb.org or 920-655-2486.

register, please visit https://

bit.ly/2Si68bQ. The registration fee is only $5 per person and includes a T-shirt, post-race activities and a prize drawing. Rosary in the Grotto

Join us each Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the grotto to say the rosary together. We are practicing social distancing. Please bring your own chair!

Where’s the Grotto? Check it Out!

You can find the grotto tucked back between the entrance of school and the carport on the north side of church. The grotto is a great place to find peace and quiet on a warm summer day, a place to pray and reflect in the beauty of nature.

The grotto is open at any time, so feel free to stop there, morning or night.

We would love to see your grotto pictures when you visit!

Send them to our parish email: parish@lourdesdepere.org and we will share them in our next bulletin article!

Back-to-School Store

The Christian Action Committee is assisting the Service League with their 29th Back to School Store. “For those of you unfamiliar with the Back-to-School Store, under normal circumstances, it is a one-day event where children from lower income families can shop for clothing and school supplies all for FREE! The event serves over 3,000 low- income children in Brown County. For safety there will not be a physical store, but we will accommodate the children as much as we can. Thus, more than ever, we need your help so that we can continue to provide local middle school and elementary students with clothing and backpacks full of school supplies. We cannot continue to provide this without your help.”

They are asking churches to collect just two items: socks and underwear. Here are the specific items they are

requesting:

● Girls Athletic Socks (sizes medium and large)

● Boys Athletic Socks (sizes medium and large)

● Girls Underwear (sizes 4 – 14)

● Boys Boxer Briefs (sizes 6 – 20)

Please drop off your donations in the box designated in the Gathering Area. We will be collecting through July 28.

Thank you for your help.

Funeral Notices

In our bulletin, we have been recognizing the deaths of not only our parishioners but their immediate family members. This is something we would like to continue to do, but occasionally someone is omitted. We don’t want to offend anyone, but often funerals are not local, and we don’t have access to an obituary. Other times, the name may not be familiar, and it is simply missed in our local newspaper.

If you have an immediate family member who has passed away and would like us to recognize that person in the bulletin please send us an email at

parish@lourdesdepere.org or call the Parish Office at (920) 336-4033 with details including all of the family members who are parishioners. Thank you!

Woodside Senior Communities Open House

You are cordially invited to attend the Woodside Oaks Senior Independent Living Open House on Wednesday, July 21, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Lunch and tours will be provided. We ask all those planning to attend to RSVP by July 17 by calling (920) 634.3636 or

emailing amackenzie@woodsidelh.org.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, July 21! Thanks much!

July is the Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus

Prayer after Receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist

Lord,

Let your Precious Body and Blood mix with mine And travel through my body,

Healing all my fears, all my illnesses And fill me with Your peace.

Let Your Precious Body and Blood Mix with mine

And flow throughout my being

Make me into all You would have me be, That I might love like You! Amen.

Dear OLOL Parish,

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Lori Henricks has accepted the administrative assistant position at OLOL School. Mrs. Henricks is a parishioner and we are excited about what she will bring to the position. When you see Lori please thank her for saying yes to OLOL Catholic School and our mission.

Work continues on our first floor renovation. The new ceiling tiles and lights are almost finished being

installed. They make the hallway so much brighter. The hallway and most of the classrooms have been

painted. When I look around, I can’t believe that it has only been a few weeks since the kids were in the building.

OLOL Spring MAPS scores were terrific. I looked at our spring MAPS RIT scores in grades 1st-7th and compared our average RIT score for the grade to the national average. In math, reading, and language, OLOL’s average RIT score was higher than the national next grade level RIT score in 3 out of 7 grade levels. An example is OLOL’s 4th grade RIT math score was higher than the national 5th grade RIT score. This occurred in slightly less than half of our grades. This is an outstanding outcome.

Thank you for the part you played in us achieving these impressive scores. I couldn’t be prouder of our students and teachers.

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”
