Music at the Mass June 11-12

Dear People of St. Catherine’s,

By now the news of new assignments is out. On May 19th , Bishop Bradley met with all the priests individually. Each one of us received our assignment. As you know now, I have been named the pastor of St. Joseph Church in St. Joseph, MI, effective July 1. This month of June will be a time of moving for many of us. Still, there is work to be done and completed. As I mentioned on the weekend of May 21-22, it has been a blessing to serve here for the last five years. While I would be happy to serve here longer, it is necessary to take on my new pastorate. St. Joseph Church in St. Joseph is the second largest parish (after St. Catherine of Siena Church) and has a Catholic school, grades K through 12. It will be another opportunity to share the Faith. My new assignment celebrates its 150th anniversary as a parish later this year. However, the first Mass offered in the area where St. Joseph is located dates to 1720!

I will ask Fr. Dan and Fr. Ben to write about their new assignments in the coming week. It’s quite a change here. The priests come and go here and every parish. I remain so grateful for these last five years. Where has the time gone? It is my intention to join you for the Jubilee Mass on Sunday, August 7 at 5:00 pm, followed by the parish picnic. I hope that all the former pastors and assistants will make an effort to come home, especially for the 50th anniversary.

The parish pilgrimage to Siena and Rome is still on; I will be leading the days as planned. Many of the pilgrims are going to Assisi, too. At this writing, there are 32 people on the pilgrimage. There is room for a few more, if you are interested.

I will still be leading my baseball excursion on Thursday, August 4. We have a full bus going to Comerica Park to see the Chicago White Sox play the Detroit Tigers. I may have to get over to Chicago later this summer for a game at Wrigley.

Unfortunately, I will not have my birthday breakfast here at St. Catherine’s. However, I will be making breakfast on Tuesday, July 26 at my new parish. Contact Mary Hunt (my birthday twin) and make reservations to join me for my 55th birthday. Morning Mass is 8:00 am, followed by breakfast in the Rose Center at 9:00 am. I will be preparing my famous St. Anne Breakfast casserole and there will be blueberries from Decatur, my hometown. Lastly, I am working on a pastry that my mom would make when my godparents would visit. (If that doesn’t work out, there are always Krispy Kreme donuts!)

The October pilgrimage is also still on. Please contact Carolyn Mack Tours for details. There are flyers in the parish office, or check the parish website (under

Who We Are/Clergy and click on Fr. Robert Creagan) or Carolyn’s website (www.carolynmacktours.com). I made my first pilgrimage in 1978 to Fatima, Portugal. Visiting shrines and churches of historical interest have been a blessing to so many.

Enjoy these last days of spring. Soon, summer will arrive. Let’s enjoy these days in anticipation of our parish’s birthday.

Sincerely, Fr. Bob

2) Once you locate what you’re looking for, does the information provided address the topic effectively? In other words, is there enough detail on your specific topic(s)?

3) Do you use our website frequently (i.e. at least once per week)? If yes, which pages or sections of our website are most useful to you? If not, please tell us why not.

4) Would you like to see us have a phone app? If so, for what reasons? Late Nite Catechism

Sunday, June 12; 2-4 pm

Transformations Spirituality Center 3427 Gull Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49048

Late Nite Catechism is an uproariously funny play that takes the audience back to a time when habit-clad Sisters taught Catechism. The irrepressible Sister teaches class to a roomful of “students.” Throughout the class the benevolent instructor rewards the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and other nifty prizes. You, the audience member, are part of Sister’s class. She’ll take you back to an earlier time which is laugh-out-loud funny, whether you were in parochial school or not! Registration is $50 per person or two for $90. For more information, see TransformationsCenter.org or call 269.381.6290.
