INTRODUCTION

PURPOSE

The Prescott Valley Geographic Information System (PVGIS) has been updated with the latest in web mapping technology to provide an easy-to-use, faster and more functional mapping tool to the citizens of Prescott Valley. This new application will allow citizens have access to mapping tools for quickly viewing, searching and displaying spatial and tabular data. ArcGIS Online is web-based, therefore you cannot break it, please feel free to experiment with all of the tools and functions available. The GIS staff would appreciate any comments, suggestions, notification of errors or overall questions to help us provide the most useful,

accurate and simple tool possible.

GETTING STARTED

Open a web browser and type in the following URL to take you to our Towns Interactive Map Page:

You may also prefer to save web page in your bookmarks or favorites. You can also go to the Town of Prescott Valley website (www.pvaz.net) and access this application there by navigating to our GIS page located under the Public Works section.

TOOLS

SEARCH/MEASURE/GRAPHICS

Use this general search to quickly search any address or place in Town. Type in an address or place and click on the search button. The dropdown arrow will allow you select the PVGIS Address Locator or you can use the default geocoder reference.

MEASURE TOOL

Use this tool to measure features on the map by distance (ex. Ft, Miles, etc) or by area (ex. Acres, Sq.Miles)

SEARCH TOOL

The Search tool allows you to retrieve information from various data layers by executing a predefined query. 1. Click the Search tool to open it. A list of searches is shown on the Tasks tab for availability.

2. Click on any defined search to open it and click the drop down arrow to enter values or scroll through the search to find the value you are seeking.

• Only return features that intersect with the shape drawn on the map—A set of drawing tools can be used to draw shapes on the map to define the area. Optionally, a search distance can be applied to the shapes.

• Return features within full extent of the map—Return features within the full extent of the map.

3. Click Execute to run the query. Features resulting from the query are highlighted on the map. If the layer has related data, the related records are also included in the results.

4. Click the ellipsis (…) to take actions on the results set, such as running statistics, exporting the results to CSV.

LAYER FILTER TOOL

The Filter widget allows you to limit the visibility of features in a layer. Only the features that meet the expression criteria will be visible in the map. You can apply multiple filters simultaneously or apply an individual filter to the map.

1. Click the Filter tool icon to open it. 2. Select any of the 3 filters listed below.

BOOKMARKS

Clicking the Bookmark widget displays all pre-defined bookmarks, including bookmarks specified using the widget configuration window, as well as bookmarks defined in the web map used in the app. Clicking one of the bookmark thumbnails in

the list sets the map extent to the bookmark area. You can also add additional bookmarks by zooming to your desired location and clicking the + icon next to the text box. To delete a bookmark defined at run time or configured using the widget configuration window, click the bookmark icon to highlight it first, and click the Delete button to delete it. If the bookmark is inherited from the web map, the Delete button is unavailable.

Clicking the X button in the upper right corner of the Bookmark window closes the bookmark window.

LEGEND\LAYERLIST\PRINT

LEGEND

The Legend displays labels and symbols for layers in the map. When no operational layers are rendered in the map, the Legend widget is blank. The order in which layers appear in the Legend widget corresponds to the layer order in the map. Clicking the Legend widget displays the legend window. Clicking the X button in the upper right corner of the legend window closes it.

LAYER LIST

The Layer List widget provides a list of operational layers and their symbols, and allows you to turn individual layers on and off. Each layer in the list has a check box that allows you to easily control its visibility. Layers having expansion arrows indicate that they contain sublayers or subtypes.

The order in which layers appear in this widget corresponds to the layer order in the map. This widget provides functionality allowing you to change the order of layers in the map.

1. Clicking the Layer List widget in your app displays the layer list or table of contents window. 2. If the Show Legend option is checked, clicking an individual layer shows its symbols.

3. Clicking the dots (…) on the right side of a layer displays the layer menu, which includes the following functions: • Zoom To—Sets the map extent to the extent of the

layer.

• Transparency—Sets the transparency for the layer. • Enable Pop-up / Remove Pop-up—Enables or

disables the pop-up for the feature layer. • Move up—Moves the layer one level up. • Move down—Moves the layer one level down. • Open attribute table—Opens the attribute table for

the feature layer.

• Show\Hide Labels— Allows the user to turn on\off labels of features manually.

4. The icon on the upper right, next to Operational

Layers, controls the behavior of all of the layers in the

list. Click the icon to open the menu, which allows you turn on or off all the layers, or expand or collapse all the layers.

5. Layers are grayed out in the list when zoomed out of their visible ranges.

6. Clicking the X button in the upper right corner of the

LayerList

window to close it.

BASEMAP GALLERY

Clicking the Basemap Gallery widget displays all the basemaps configured for this widget. Clicking one of the basemap thumbnails sets it as the active basemap for the app. Click the X in the upper right corner of the Basemap Gallery window to close it.

PRINT MAPS

The Print function connects the web application with a printing service to allow the current map to print. 1. Click the print icon to open the Print widget.

2. Enter a title for the map in the Map Title text box.

3. Select the applicable Layout and Format for the exported map.

NOTE: A3 Portrait (8.5X11) and PDF are default but the

following other formats and layouts are available for print options: (FORMATS) • PDF (Default) • PNG8 • JPEG • GIF • EPS • SVG • SVGZ (LAYOUTS) • A3 Landscape • A3 Portrait (Default) • A4 Landscape • A4 Portrait • ANSI A Landscape • ANSI A Portrait

4. Click the “Print” button. The print function will then generate a print file in PDF format (if default) or other format if chosen. 5. Click on the link to open print file or click the “Clear Prints” button to start over.

6. Once the print file opens, just click the print function on bottom of page or “File” “Print”.

7. You can also Click on the “Advanced” button for more printing options. NOTE: This is not required but is available if you need additional print settings. See advanced options below:

• Print map at scale of your choice or leave default

• You can also put your name in as the author as an option. • Change date if needed

• Change the map Width and Height or leave default

• For higher quality, you can set the DPI to larger number like 300.

SHARE

The Share function allows the user to connect to the social media world. The user can upload maps or share the link to Facebook, twitter etc to show friends and other users about the application

The About Icon allows the user to gain access to this document directly from within the map for any questions or help the

user may need.

2. The extent of the overview map changes as you pan around the main map window. You may also choose to move the black box or extent of overview map to change location within the main map window. Simply hover your mouse over the black box area, click on your left mouse key then drag box to desired area of overview map. The location of black box will zoom to that location in the main map window.

3. You can also choose to expand the overview map to full screen by clicking the “X-directional” button. Once in full screen, you can simply click the directional button again to restore overview map back to original size.

HOME, ZOOM, SCALEBAR , COORDINATES (XY)

HOME BUTTON

When the application starts, the Home Button widget is automatically enabled. Clicking it resets the map extent to the map initial extent.

ZOOM SLIDER

Click on the plus or minus button to zoom in or zoom out on the map. If enabled, you can also you your mouse wheel to zoom in our zoom out.

NOTE: To zoom in on an area of the map using “zoom window” capability, simply just hold your “shift” key down and draw a box with your cursor. This will zoom to the drawn box area of the map.

SCALEBAR

When the application starts, the Scalebar widget is automatically enabled and displayed at the lower left corner of the application. It is updated dynamically when the map's scale changes.

COORDINATES (XY)

-When the application starts, it displays by default WGS_84 (LAT/LONG) coordinate system. The coordinates will change accordingly when you move the mouse pointer on the map.

Click to enable clicking the map to get coordinates. In this way, you can add a point on the map, highlight the coordinates, and make a copy of them.

LAYER TABLE ACCESS

The Attribute Table widget displays a tabular view of operational layer attributes. It displays at the bottom of the web application and can be opened, resized, or closed. When more than one of the layer's attributes display, multiple tabs automatically generate in the attribute panel allowing you to switch among the attribute tables. The table tabs in this application as shown below have been set as default for access.

-Options to open or close the attribute table are as follows:

• You can also open the attribute table for each layer by going through the layer list option…see below.

• Select a record—Clicking a record in the table selects it and highlights the corresponding feature in the map with the color specified in the Attribute Table widget configuration window. Double clicking any fields in the selected record will zoom to the feature on the map. Press the Shift or Ctrl key to select multiple records.

• Clear selections—Clicking the Clear Selection button clears all selections.

• Zoom to selected features—Clicking Zoom to resets the map extent to center around selected features. • Copy the field value---Double clicking the field value to highlight it, then right clicking it to copy the value. • Refresh—Clicking Refresh refreshes the tables.

• Sort a field—Clicking a field heading sorts the records by this field.

• Show or hide columns—Clicking the + icon on the right side of the Attribute Table panel opens the field visibility window. Check or uncheck the fields to set them to visible or invisible in the table.

• You can also open the attributes for individual layers by just clicking on any feature on the map. When you click on a feature, an attribute pop-up window appears. If multiple features are clicked on, those attributes will appear for example as “1 of 2”, “1 of 4”, etc. Just click the little arrow on the pop-up window to display those layer attributes that have been selected.

WEB LINKS

• The application contains some web links that are available at the top of the application map frame. Just click on any of the links provided to access that website.

• Google Maps – This link will open up google maps within the Prescott Valley extent. Use this map as an additional resource to compare and reference site location data or accessing street view.

• YC GIS Map – This link will open up the Yavapai County GIS Interactive Web Mapping Application. Use this application as an additional resource for parcel ownership, permitting, and county GIS data.

• TOPV Website – This link will open up the Town of Prescott Valley website.
