Project cost and TCO

Total project cost will be comparable as customizations and Connect modules require additional development and maintenance. Some SIs recommend employing a full time developer to maintain and optimize the site. Competitive solutions rely on the wider developer network and modules.

Magento Enterprise is an annual fee ($15.5K per server or $50K for the premium), EPiServer licenses are equivalent in a TCO over 3 years. Global solutions are complex and expensive to roll out and manage on Magento (EPiServer multi-site licenses can increase EPiServer cost).

Magento will push customer to paid Enterprise model for support.

Magento is only really commerce. EPiServer provides strong control of the Customer Experience - Including powerful multi-screen CMS drag and drop control of content and layout, personalization, A/B, MVT testing, Marketing Automation tools. Provides the agility for marketers to launch campaigns and respond to trends quickly.

EPiServer is more complete and scalable (largest Magento catalogs around 50,000 SKUs). Largest EPiServer catalogs 15M SKUs.

Add-ons

Robust Add-on modules -EPiServer and all of it’s add-ons come from a carefully managed code-base, not exposed to the varying quality of Magento add-ons and extensions.

Our partnerships with global PSPs allow local payment types to be accepted. (Magento will position local payment methods Connect modules)

Roadmap

Roadmap – EPiServer has an aggressive roadmap, not driven by the open source community requiring consensus. We provide

upgrades in each release to ensure customers platform keep progressing. Magento reliant on connect modules also upgrading.

EPiServer products are developed with a focus on User Experience and ease of use.

EPiServer user experience is easier and more efficient for managing site structure, content and customer experience. Magento combined with Wordpress or Drupal bring separate user interface.
