Create

The Future

Since its launch in 1984, the CAFIS has succeeded in becoming an essential social infrastructure thanks to the support of credit card companies, financial institutions, member stores, and various associations and organizations. We believe that the major factor for growth is our capability to come up with new ideas while always addressing customers’ needs and proposing new functions and services that are always one step ahead of the times.

There is no end to our efforts toward transforming the CAFIS into a more convenient, reliable, and trustable service. We will put effort into the evolution of the CAFIS toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games and promote a shift to cashless transactions as well as diversification of payment methods. We at NTT DATA Group are pushing forward the globalization of our business under our group vision̶Global IT Innovator. As a partner who leads customers’ global businesses to success and in order to provide a wide variety of services, we will continue utilizing the ‘gene’ of the CAFIS which has been leading the domestic payment infrastructure.

To become a company which makes contributions to the growth of customers and society, we will continue tackling new challenges through the ever-evolving CAFIS for both regional revitalization and a globalized society.

We are looking forward to continued business with you and would like to kindly ask you for your continued support.

CAFIS strives for continuous improvement for the

future of regional revitalization and global society.

(4)

At the end of 2014, six ministries and agencies including the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced the “Policy for the Shift to Cashless Transactions”.

This policy is a public-private initiative in anticipation of regional revitalization as well as of environmental improvement for increasing the number of tourists from overseas and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, as the promotion of cashless payment would contribute to vitalization of business transactions and creation of new businesses.

In the meantime, in recent years, payment services in Japan are experiencing a major transitional period as an emerging company called FinTech has been showing strong expansion in the field of finance and new technologies, and business models for payment have been introduced.

To promote the shift to cashless transactions in Japan through the utilization of the CAFIS, a leading payment infrastructure in Japan, NTT DATA will carry forward diversification of payment-related services including solutions for tourists from overseas and continue making improvements with our customers through globalization, open innovation and other services. In July 2015, the Cards & Payments Services Division which is providing the CAFIS was incorporated under the Corporations & Solutions Fields due to an organizational and structural reform. With this reform and through collective effort of the Corporations & Solutions Fields, we hope to walk hand-in-hand with member stores and other corporate customers to further improve our customers’ earnings and CS.

For financial institutions and card companies, we will maintain close cooperation and strive to better serve as a global business partner.

CAFIS grows and evolves with our customers and we appreciate your continued business with us.

Many of the services which center on the CAFIS are provided 24/7/365 and we will continue putting effort into improving BCPs while taking into consideration the lessons learned from earthquakes and other incidents. Additionally, many of the services provide an extremely high level of security and we continuously implement appropriate measures against security threats which keep evolving every day.

For continuity and effective implementation of these services, we have acquired certification such as ISO20000 and ISO27000 with global standards.

We will continue doing our best through collective effort of all employees under the slogan of “Clients First”.

Thanks to your continued support, CAFIS has been able to keep expanding as a payment infrastructure that supports Japan. Due to the changes in the business environment and the diversification in payment methods in the recent years, there has been an increasing demand for the swift implementation of various payment services on top of the payment infrastructure function.

We, the First Development Section, are commercializing the most-advanced payment services such as “CAFIS Arch”, a cloud payment service, and prepaid card services in order to create new services that satisfy these customer needs. Additionally, we are in charge of formulating system strategies for the entire CAFIS to support these new services. While incorporating new technologies and development methods and putting effort into raising the bar for manufacturing, we continue developing payment services that satisfy the expectations of customers and society.

With conventional payment terminals, we need to send on-site technician or send-back maintenance to add or delete payment applications because payment applications were implemented in the terminals.

On the other hand, CAFIS Arch employs a thin client system in which payment applications are held at the CAFIS Arch Center. Therefore, new applications become available to be used by terminals immediately after registering them to the Arch Center, allowing you to flexibly expand functions depending on customer needs.

CAFIS Arch is a terminal which can be used as a regional revitalization tool by realizing CAFIS Inbound.

It can accommodate branded credit cards, domestic credit cards, as well as UnionPay Card and Shinhan Card for tourists from Asian countries who account for the majority of foreign tourists to Japan.

Foreign tourists to Japan are a l w a y s c o n c e r n e d a b o u t exchange rate fluctuations when doing shopping in Japan. With C A F I S A r c h , t h e y c a n d o shopping without worrying about the risk of exchange fluctuations because they can choose to make payment either in their own currency or in Japanese yen. In the past, we had to write information

down on special slips such as purchase records for tax-free purchases when foreign tourists to Japan were doing shopping at tax-free stores. With CAFIS Arch, you can print out tax free slips

from the terminal by reading passport information with a passport reader and inputting purchase information to the CAFIS Arch terminal. It will significantly reduce the time necessary for the issuance of tax free forms, so you don’t have to make customers wait any more.

Ever-increasing unauthorized

online transactions

Users’ device information

must be checked to prevent

identity theft which has been

increasing in recent years.

Currently, changes in the methods of unauthorized uses are considered to be one of the factors for the increase in unauthorized transactions and accesses.

In the past, unauthorized accesses were mainly done by hacking into servers and/or databases or done by people inside the organization. Therefore, we have been dealing with them by preventing entry with firewalls or utilizing information such as security codes or one-time passwords, which are supposedly known only by the person, for authorization.

However, majority of the unauthorized access damages nowadays are due to identity theft such as “list-based attacks” in which an unauthorized person/people tries to log in using a list of IDs and passwords illegally obtained from leakage.

Also, these attacks are becoming more sophisticated, for example by trying to log in from multiple IP addresses at different times to pretend as normal login. With conventional security measures, it is difficult to prevent identity thieves from accessing.

In recent years, the e-commerce market for domestic consumers has been steadily expanding and it is expected to expand further. Meanwhile, the number of unauthorized transactions and logins on the internet has been increasing with the increase in the number of online transactions.

In response to these situations, the “Credit Card Transaction Security Measures Council” was formed in spring 2015 with respect to credit card use, and people from different industries has been cooperating and putting effort into improving the trust from consumers.

Moreover, in spring 2015, the Financial Services Agency partially revised the “Comprehensive Supervision Policies for Major Banks”, the “Financial Inspection Manual”, and other documents to add policies for detecting unauthorized logins, abnormal transactions, and other issues and for preparing a system which swiftly notifies users.

CAFIS Global

Our efforts toward the global implementation

based on the past performances of

CAFIS in Japan.

● NTTDATA Thailand

● VietUnion

By using NTT DATA Thailand, a payment company which has mainly conducting the development of card business processing systems for financial institutions in Thailand, as a delivery site and utilizing an array of IT solutions and customer base centering on CAFIS, we are developing new services and providing new schemes to Japanese companies, Thai companies, and surrounding countries.

In Vietnam, we formed a capital affiliation with VietUnion, a group company of the SGI (Saigon Investment) group and a company which provides payment services for public utilities, etc. and has the largest market share in Vietnam. We are striving to provide advanced and competitive payment services by mutually utilizing payment solution know-hows obtained through CAFIS, SGI group’s customer base, and VietUnion’s infrastructure.

● Malaysia iPay 88

iPay 88, a company which has the largest share in the e-commerce payment acceptance service business via PCs and mobile phones in Malaysia, has joined the NTT Data group.

By combining our payment business solutions and know-hows that we obtained through CAFIS and iPay 88’s strong customer base as well as payment acceptance service business for member stores and financial institutions, we are striving for further expansion of our payment businesses throughout the APAC region including Malaysia.

Asian Payment Network (APN)

T h e A P N i s a n o r g a n i z a t i o n established in 2006 under the lead of the central banks of major ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand) in order to establish a ‘new retail payment network in Asia’, and non-ASEAN countries such as Korea, China, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as Philippines and Vietnam have joined since 2010. It has been s t u d y i n g a n d p r o v i d i n g n e w f r a m e w o r k s f o r r e t a i l p a y m e n t businesses between countries. NTT Data had been considering

joining the APN based on the assumption that the necessity for retail payment services would increase in Asia as more and more Japanese companies and banks increase make entry into other Asian countries. Thus, in 2014, NTT Data was admitted to the APN, becoming the first Japanese company to join the organization.

Financial institutions in Japan will be connected online with financial institutions in APN member countries through the system which NTT Data is planning to develop, and foreigners to Japan such as tourists from Asia-Pacific region countries will be able to withdraw cash and do shopping in Japan just like UnionPay service by using their own bank cards. Additionally, Japanese tourists will be able to withdraw cash in local currencies in ASEAN countries with no hassle.
