Change in Definition: 2007

In 2007 the CBS modified the way with which it registers enterprises in the Netherlands

Before 2007 the CBS only counted companies that were considered ‘economically active’: companies in which at

least one person worked 15 hours or more per week. From 2007 onwards the so-called Hour Criterion

(‘Urenciterium’) was discarded, leading to a large increase in the number of ‘in-scope’ enterprises (+32%)

The impact of the change had different implications per industry, overall it can be concluded that the definition

alteration had a higher than average impact on the professional services industry (+40% vs. +32%)
