Two-Year MasTer’s PrograMMes

King’s is expanding its range of two-year master’s specifi cally

designed for international students. These programmes provide

you with clear routes into a range of prestigious MA and MSc

programmes across the College. The fi rst year functions as a type

of pre-master’s programme and leads directly into your master’s

programme in year two.

These new programmes off er you a unique opportunity to take an

integrated approach to your master’s study. They combine study

in your academic area with an explicit focus on developing your

academic English, analytical and research skills over two years.

These programmes are taught jointly by School and English

Language Centre (ELC) academics. The ELC is accredited

by the British Council. The 2009 inspection awarded the ELC

points of excellence in six general categories, the highest score

achieved across all Colleges in the University of London.

These programmes are suitable for you if you want to study your

master’s at King’s and develop your subject, English and critical

thinking skills. All successful students progress directly onto their

chosen graduate programme.

All students who follow the two-year international master’s

programmes are guaranteed progression onto their chosen

master’s provided they pass the fi rst year at the required level.

These programmes lead into a wide variety of postgraduate

WATERLOO CAMPUS

School of Social Science & Public Policy

This programme is coordinated by the Department of Political Economy on behalf of the School of Social Science & Public Policy. The School is multi-disciplinary in its approach and is devoted to the study and advancement of social science scholarship to help tackle some of the most important social, political and ethical issues of our time. It is an acknowledged world leader in teaching and research within its specialised areas. This programme draws on expertise from across the School to deliver a programme targeted to student needs.

You will also have regular tutorials where you will receive academic support and individual feedback on your progress.

enTrY reQuIreMenTs Applicants must possess a fi rst or upper second class honours degree or overseas equivalent. We are looking for a background which demonstrates excellent academic potential and will consider applications from students with a non-social science background. You must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (with no skill below 5.5) or TOEFL 80 iBT (visit our website for minimum skills levels).

This is a full-time one year programme that leads into a range of prestigious

master’s level programmes in the School of Social Science & Public Policy.

The programme supports students who need to develop their humanities, academic English

and critical thinking skills prior to graduate study. It draws on the expertise of academics

working across King’s and off ers a unique integration of humanities and academic English

tuition. It introduces you to core humanities theories and research from a variety of diff erent

perspectives, using a range of analytical tools. It develops key humanities skills in the careful

management and interpretation of sources and guides you in developing confi dent and

independent research methods and forms of critical address.

You will also benefi t from our unrivalled links with key cultural organisations as you make

extensive use of cultural landmarks such as the British Museum, the British Library and the

Tate throughout the programme.

This programme provides a structured pathway into taught and research-based MSc level

programmes for international students who need to improve their academic subject, English

and critical thinking skills. The programme allows you to master your chosen science subject

through a unique focus on integrating scientifi c knowledge and academic English tuition. This

supports you in developing your knowledge and skills so that you do full justice to your intellect

and experience. All successful students progress directly onto their chosen MSc programme.

School of Biomedical Sciences

This programme is off ered by the School of Biomedical Sciences, which is one of the largest biomedical research and teaching centres in Europe. The School has a strong academic reputation and is positioned amongst the UK’s leading institutions.
