Introduction

When taking the crucial step from accountant to a senior finance professional it is imperative that you are aware of the legal, regulatory and organisational context of arriving at a more senior position. In order to succeed you need strong interpersonal skills because technical skills alone will not be enough.

This five day-modular programme has been tailored by finance and development professionals, and is aimed at understanding the important skills required to help deal with new and challenging situations faced by those aspiring to a senior finance role. You will be able to learn and test new techniques in a risk-free environment.

Who should attend?

Individuals recently appointed to, or aspiring to, senior positions such as financial controller or director in the private or public sector where interpersonal and communication skills are expected from the board and other senior executives.

Garry Buick ACMA, CGMA

Garry is the Director of Professional Development at BPP, and has had extensive experience in management reporting and financial control. He has worked with GlaxoSmithKline in a number of area Finance Director roles in the manufacturing division. He also worked in China as a key member of the implementation team for low-cost product sourcing.

Richard Mallett FCMA, CGMA

Richard has a wealth of experience in roles including Corporate Finance Manager at Reed International, Group Financial Controller at Sainsbury’s and Technical Director at CIMA. During his time with CIMA, Richard was also Technical Adviser to the UK member of the Professional Accountants Business Committee of the International Federation of Accountants.

Andy Wilkes ACMA, CGMA

Andy has worked in senior management for over 17 years, helping public sector organisations implement more commercial accounting methods. Andy has experience in change management and budgeting across Government and managed a team that developed and delivered the technical systems and associated financial awareness training for the Highways Agency.

• Map out the stakeholders and proactively leverage their input and manage their reaction

• Complete a project within budget, on time and to the required quality • Implement a plan, taking into account issues, monitoring and

corrective action • Evaluate a project

• Understand the advantages and common pitfalls of project working • Plan actions and self evaluate
