Surgical training is long and arduous. Yet it seldom prepares one for the day to day rigours of routine surgical practice. In this book, Professor Hall provides practical and insightful advice on how to survive and develop as a junior surgeon. The book covers numerous relevant topics from surgical etiquette to professionalism, leadership and resolving conflicts. I advise all of my junior surgical colleagues to read this book. In fact, I think all surgeons can learn from his reflections.

I am an emergency room physician at a level 1 trauma center. I mentor a high school football player who is an aspiring orthopedic surgeon. I gave this book to him as a gift. This is a great gift to give to any family or friends you know who are aspiring surgeons. I recommend reading Ecceisiastes from the Bible and Dr Hall's book and both may help them not only in their career but, perhaps more importantly, in their life.
