The Study Foundation
For more than 30 years, The Study Foundation’s endowment fund has helped make the school what it is today : a vibrant and stimulating place that prepares girls to become great women. We thank all of you who have supported the Foundation, through donations to the Annual Giving Campaign and through major gifts. Your generous support is a testament of your commitment to this remarkable school. At our recent Annual General Meeting it was announced that The Study Foundation’s endowment fund currently stands at nearly $3.5 million and has, over the past three decades, disbursed $2.8 million to the school. However, if The Study is to achieve its ambitious vision for the future – outlined later in this report - the endowment fund must grow exponentially in the coming years, and with our initial goal of $20 million, we can underwrite the school’s bold vision.
At its heart, it’s a simple proposition. As The Study moves forward, it needs financial support; The Foundation can provide it. We are proud of all that has been accomplished to date and we encourage all parents, friends, relatives and alumnae to join us in helping to make the endowment fund even stronger. The school’s future success depends on it.

The world needs great women. In the spring of 2005, fifty individuals representing different consti-tuencies of our school community gathered to consider how The Study could best contribute towards the achievement of this goal.
After further deliberation and extensive consultation the result is a bold and ambitious vision plan for the future focusing on four important areas.
Access and Diversity -
Accès et diversité
-Scholarships and Bursaries
We want our school community to reflect Montreal’s linguistic duality and vibrant multi-cultural nature. The enrichment diversity brings, coupled with our strong bilingual program, prepare our students
incre-dibly well for living and working in Montreal and around the world.
Additional scholarships and bursaries will make The Study accessible to a greater number of talen-ted girls regardless of their family’s financial means – girls who will thrive in our school environment
and contribute positively to the community.
Learning -
L’apprentissage
-Research based learning centre
and program
When students understand how they learn, they learn better. At The Study we have incorporated leading-edge brain research into our academic program. We now want to further integrate research based learning into our entire program and to create a support and resource centre for both students and teachers.
We will strengthen our expertise in many areas: early intervention, learning styles, enrichment
programs, study and organizational skills. imagine what this means
for every student at our school.

Outstanding facilities
At The Study, our « whole student » philosophy responds to girls’ intellectual, physical, creative and socio-emotional needs.
But our program would be significantly enhanced with access to outstanding facilities - playing fields, dance studio, swimming pool, student centre and additional teaching-learning space. The Study aims to prepare girls for life.
Leading -
Leadership
-Outdoor leadership centre
Study girls are keen to make a difference. it is up to us to provide them with the
opportunities to do so. in a leadership program we can foster optimism, team building, risk-taking, integrity, environmental awareness and global literacy.
our dream is to have an experiential
leadership program at an outdoor centre a short distance outside of Montreal. Leadership starts at The Study.
Our plan is bold and ambitious. It fulfills our mission in a greater way than ever thought possible and is a blueprint for the creation of a world class school. At its heart is the education of girls who will one day be great women eager to make a difference.
With the support of everyone in The Study community, and an increased endowment fund, we will have the financial security and flexibility to make this vision possible.

over the years The Study has been enriched by the increasing diversity of its student
body. Looking ahead we need to build on this foundation by ensuring girls from across
Montreal have access to our school regardless of their socio-economic background.
That is why our gift is for scholarships and bursaries.

pour qu’une école puisse aller au bout de sa mission et de sa vision, il lui faut un
soutien généreux et durable. C’est pourquoi, nous sommes heureux d’appuyer de façon
concrète cette institution exceptionnelle qui a tant fait pour nos filles.
— DESMARAIS FAMILY
We are delighted one of the areas our gift supports is outstanding professional
development for teachers. Faculty play a pivotal role at The Study ensuring our daughters
benefit not only from the best in pedagogy but also by providing a supportive and
nurturing atmosphere. To remain a leader we need to continue to attract and retain
top-notch teachers.

When you participate in the Annual Giving Campaign you decide exactly how your contribution will help. You can designate your gift to The Study Foundation endowment Fund, which provides funds for scholar-ships and bursaries as well as a financial reserve to enable flexibility in program planning. The endowment has always been funded primarily through annual giving. Why is this option so important? Because an increased endowment will enable us to offer additional scholarships and bursaries to talented students who would otherwise not be able to attend The Study.
Another option is to designate your gift to Head’s initiatives. The benefit of your donation is immediate and tangible – supporting our technology program, classroom and playground improvements, staff pro-fessional development opportunities and infrastructure upgrades.
We are immensely proud and appreciative of our past accomplishments. Whether you are a parent, friend, relative or alumna, please join us in building the future. As The Study moves forward and reaches new levels of excellence, your participation is needed more than ever. Thank you for helping us realize our bold vision for the future by making The Study one of your giving priorities this year.
“When we enrolled our daughters at The Study we gave them wings. By participating in the Annual Giving Campaign we help them fly.”

L’AVenir
A devoted “Old Girl” and loyal supporter of the school, Barbara Whitley has used her remarkable energy and legendary fundraising talents to reach out to alumnae, friends and relatives and share her passion for The Study and its unique place in the community.
Dès la première année, elle et 50 autres donateurs ont réussi à amasser 110 000 $. over the years, Barbara has lent her support to other school campaigns and projects, most notably the Building on Tradition Campaign, which surpassed its initial target of $150,000 and raised close to $350,000 from alumnae. Barbara remains keenly interested in The Study and its future. She believes that the school’s small classes promote effective education and is passionate about what she calls “academic elegance ” - a well-rounded education that equips girls with an appreciation of their culture and their country and an intelligent curiosity about the world.
“Perhaps you feel grateful for friends you made and for the knowledge you acquired. You may want your daughter to have the same opportunities, or you may simply share in the belief that a school like ours is a special asset to the community. For all these reasons, we hope you will lend your financial support to The Study Endowment Fund.” exCerpT FroM A LeTTer BArBArA WHiTLeY WroTe To A FeLLoW ALuMnA in 1979
