United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

The information included in this guide is collected from many different agencies

and all are free of charge, unless there is a fee mentioned. Each listing has

information about times and locations, and most have a telephone number for

further information. If you have a question about a particular listing, please call

the contact number first.

Feeding Your Baby Solid Food

Feeding your baby solid food is an exciting time that comes with many questions. Join this one hour workshop to learn about the signs that your baby is ready for solid food, which and how much food to start with, allergies and more. Christmas LEGO® Contest and

Christmas Open House Event

Families with one or more children under the age of 16 work together to design and create a one-of-a-kind entry for the Gananoque Public Library LEGO® Christmas village open to public voting. Discover winners at a holiday

Child Care Fee Subsidy

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville manages and determines eligibility for child care fee subsidies for residents of Leeds and Grenville

under the authority of the Day Nurseries Act.

Subsidies are available for children ranging from birth to twelve years of age where the parent(s) is/are employed or enrolled in an educational or retraining program. Child care fee subsidy applies only to contracted licensed child care settings.

First Year, First Visit

Open to all residents of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark that have children 0 - 4 years of age. This allows the caregivers to discuss proper oral care for infants and young children to observe any signs of early childhood tooth decay at an early stage. Age Group: 0 - 4 years.

Autism Ontario

Autism is a developmental disorder affecting the brain’s normal development of a person’s social and communication skills. Diagnosis of autism usually occurs in early childhood.

These services are located outside of Leeds & Grenville, but provide service to Leeds & Grenville.

Prenatal Classes

In-Person Prenatal Classes are led by Public Health Nurses and run once per week for 4 weeks. Topics include having a healthy pregnancy, breastfeeding, preparing for labour and delivery and caring for your newborn and yourself.

Online Prenatal Course covers the same topics as the in-person classes and is ideal for families who have scheduling conflicts, like to learn at their own pace, are on bed rest or just want a refresher.

Fluoride Varnish Program

The Oral Health Program of the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit considers the use of Fluoride Varnish to be a safe and effective part of a cavity prevention program. The goal of the program is to increase knowledge and decrease incidence of early childhood tooth decay. Age Group: 0 - 6 years

(also available 7 - 17 years).

Children in Need of Dental

Treatment Program (CINOT)

CINOT is a provincially and municipally funded program for children in need of dental treatment whose family does not have access to dental insurance. This program ensures that Ontario children in need of urgent dental care can receive immediate treatment. Age Group: 0 - 18 years.

A dental screening needs to be completed by a Public Health Registered Dental Hygienist to confirm the child’s urgent dental needs.

Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO)

A no-cost preventive dental program for eligible children to visit a licensed dental provider for cleaning, fillings, x-rays and more. Age Group: 0 - 18 years.

All families that register for HSO must meet the following requirements:

• Residents of Ontario.

• They are members of a household with

an Adjusted Family Net Income of $20,000 per year or below.

• No other access to any form of dental

insurance.

• Treatment can be assessed at

participating dental offices or a Public Health Dental Clinic.

Triple P - Positive Parenting

Program

Locations: Throughout Leeds & Grenville Every parent needs information to help them on their parenting journey. The Triple P Positive Parenting Program can help. Topics range from sleep to toilet learning to homework completion to disobedience.

Leeds and Grenville has a comprehensive Triple P parenting support system for all parents.

Children’s Mental Health

Children’s Mental Health provides services for children and their parents, with our Early Years team focusing upon the emotional, behavioural needs of children under six. We provide in home visits, early intervention if you are concerned about your child’s mental health and we work with parents to prepare for kindergarten transitions and offer a range of Triple P individual and group learning activities. There are no charges for services as funding is provided by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

Parents can call our Prompt Services at 1-800-809-2494 and ask for help.

Healthy Babies, Healthy Children

A Free program that provides home visits by public health nurses and home visitors to pregnant women and families with children who have not yet started school. Home visits help you learn about:

• Having a healthy pregnancy and birth

• Connecting with your child(ren)

• How children grow and develop as well

as what you can do to help

• Being a parent

• Breastfeeding, food and healthy

nutrition

• Taking care of yourself and your family

• Other services available to you and your

child in your community

Language Express

Language Express is a preschool

speech-language program in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Counties.

A child should be referred…

• If there are concerns about

speech/language/hearing development.

• If the child’s speech and language skills

have not improved over the past six months.

• If the child often repeats sounds and/or

words (stuttering).

• If the child’s play or social interaction

seems inappropriate.

• If the child has a diagnosis such as cleft

lip/palate, hearing loss, PDD/Autism or developmental delay.

• If the child is not meeting one or more

of the milestones for their age.

Making Play Possible

Making Play Possible endeavours to give all children and youth living in Leeds & Grenville the opportunity to engage in play regardless of the barriers which they face. These barriers may be financial, geographic or physical and/or mental health difficulties.

Participation in recreation and social

opportunities are important to a child’s healthy development. Every child and youth within Leeds & Grenville deserves a chance to learn, grow and have fun by having access to these kinds of opportunities. Being involved in recreational experiences is important to helping kids be mentally and physically healthy. Children need to have fun, feel important, build skills, feel proud, have adult role models, be respected, hang out with other kids, be unique and feel involved.
