(7)

6 Your AutoCAD file (converted from the digimap DATA file), once opened, should look like the image above.

TO SEND THIS SURVEY TO THE LASER CUTTER, YOU WILL NEED TO SIMPLIFY THE FILE, BY DELETING/ FREEZING ALL THE LAYERS THAT YOU DON’T NEED.

(8)

7 LAYER PROPERTIES_ DIALOG BOX

There are two different ways to simplify an AutoCAD file, You can: TURN OFF LAYERS or FREEZE LAYERS

Once you have done that, you should have a

simplified drawing file, showing only the NECESSARY LAYERS_ TURNED ON.

In this case:

BUILDING OUTLINE & PATH OR EDGES & ROADS OR EDGE.

(9)

8 Copy_ your plan from your original file (COPY, BY HIGHLIGHTING ALL YOUR LINES AND PRESS_ Ctrl + c)

Paste_ it onto the new Drawing Template (Ctrl + p)

You can now see that all the layers that were turned off, are no longer visible in the new DRAWING FILE.

IF YOU HAVE USED COMPONENTS WITHIN YOUR AUTOCAD FILE, MAKE SURE TO EXPLODE ALL THE DRAWING LINES, BEFORE ADVANCING ANY FURTHER.

Your aim is to:

CREATE_ NEW LAYERS CALLED: ‘CUT’ and ‘ETCH’ (Specified by two different colours, preferably red and blue) DELETE_ ANY OTHER LAYERS,

CHANGE_ THE DRAWING LAYERS, SO THAT THEY ARE ONLY ALOCATED TO CUT OR ETCH.

Your AutoCAD file should:

HAVE ONLY 2 LAYERS + LAYER 0 (DEFAULT LAYER)

EACH LAYER MUST BE ASSOCIATED WITH A SPECIFIC CLOUR AND NAME:

e.g.: CUT_ BLUE ETCH_ RED.

MAKE SURE_ YOUR ‘LINETYPES’ ARE SET TO CONTINUOUS AND NO DOTTED/ DASHED LINES ARE VISIBLE IN THE DRAWING.

(10)

9

SETTING UP A PAGE SIZE AND A SCALE_

(11)

10 Once you have your chosen paper size & scale set_ AT 1:1.

PLACE_ THE BOX AROUND THE AREA YOU WOULD LIKE TO LASER-CUT.

TRIM_ all the around your specified page layout. (THE BOX)

AND SET ‘THE BOUNDARYLINE’ AS A_ CUT LAYER.

FINALLY,

YOU NEED TO SAVE THE FILE AS A_

‘AutoCAD R12/ LT2 DXF’

This will now be laser-cut, as an A1 sheet at a scale of 1:500.
