Welcome to
the 2019 Jeju Olle Walking Festival
2019 Jeju Olle Walking Festival
Follow the signs and enjoy the trail!
If you do not see a sign for a while, it is possible you are on a wrong path.
But no need to panic. Just go back to the point you lastly saw the Jeju Olle Trail sign and start walking again.
We will walk in a forward direction on Thursday, Saturday, October 31, November 2 from the starting point to the finishing point and reverse direction on Friday, November 1 from the finishing point to the starting point.
Ganse Ganse is Jeju Olle’s symbol in the shape of a pony.
The name comes from ‘Gansedari,’ meaning lazy bum in Jeju dialect. The sign’s design goes well with the surroundings.
Ganse’s head points to the forward direction.
The sign-stone of Jeju Olle Staring Point
You may glimpse the route with the map and see the attractions on each route. Since we will be starting the route at 2019 Jeju Olle Walking Festival, please take a look at the program book, guidebook, and festival.jejuolle.org prior to the festival.
Jeju Olle Ribbons Jeju Olle Ribbons are tied to a tree, at eye level with Olle hikers. The ribbons move to the wind, preventing Olle hikers from losing their way.
Arrows Ocean blue and tangerine orange arrows are easy to find in Jeju. It isn’t just an arrow, but a combination of a Chinese character for people and a straight line symbolizing road. Blue is for the forward direction and orange is for the reverse. Follow blue on Thursday, Saturday, October 31, November 2, and orange on Friday, November 1.
Launched at the first route in Siheung-ri in 2010, Jeju Olle Walking Festival has been working on this story for 10 years now. Why did we start this festival? We are reminded of the question we asked in the very first year.
We just wanted to hold a unique and exciting feast on the trail for the villages where the Jeju Olle Trail passes through, local residents and Jeju Olle hikers living their everyday lives, and of course those who prepares the feast.
We clearly remember the good old times, when we cried and laughed together. Today, we would like to express sincere appreciation to everyone who has been with us on this trail.
"Shall we set out, play, rest, and hike
toward where the glowing fall of Jeju awaits?"

Sustainable Festival that Cares for the Environment
Creating banners and posters made with the upcycling Tyvek material
Starting this year, we wanted to find a way of creating festival banners and posters with more environment-friendly materials and so we chose to use Dupont Korea's new spunbounded Tyvek material made from high-density polyehylene fibers. Tyvek is a safe, environment-friendly material that
can be recycled. After the festival, we will collect Tyvek produces and make upcycling products, such as Ganse dolls and ecobag pouches. There will be a number of Tyvek products on display during the 2019 Jeju Olle Walking Festival and some may be available for purchase.
