Happy Independence Day!!!
Friday:
Your official exam day is Today – Friday June 5th, 8am to 7pm. on campus. At the main campus you can take the exam at the LEAC Rm. 307. At the south campus you can take the exam at the
Learning Enrichment Center Room B222 (Zaffirini Library, second floor). You will have 2 hours for the exam. Please remember to take your ID's.
What will be on your final: Your final exam will consist of 30 multiple choice and short answer questions (mostly multiple choice) and 4 essay questions. The multiple choice/short answer questions will be worth 2 points each, and the essay questions will be worth 10 points each for a total of 100 points.
What you should know: The 30 multiple choice and short answer questions will concern the stories you have not been quizzed over. That means all of the stories beginning with Volume E. Know the birth and death dates for all of the authors (know these dates by memory because I will ask you to write exact dates!!!). Also, know where they are from and what they wrote (from what we read). From the 30 questions, most will be multiple choice except the birth and death dates (you will need to know those from memory)! Also, I will include passage identification questions (but nothing too specific). Finally, you will have 4 essay questions, each worth 10 points. The essay questions will cover stories from all of your books. For each question I would like roughly half a page (a good size paragraph). The questions will cover the literary movements. There are four movements: Realism, Naturalism,
Modernism and Postmodernism. I will ask you to write about each movement giving examples from a story of your choice that relate to the movement in question. In other words, discuss the movements and how they relate to our readings. Make sure that you choose stories appropriate to the movements (not just from book E). For instance, when you write about Realism, use Twain or Howells, not Vonnegut.
You will not be allowed to take notes into the testing centers, so please study as the final is worth 25% of your grade!
