Welcome and thank you for joining us for SHiFT!
This year is a little different, having most, if not all of our events, online. We hoped to have our Winter Coffee House in the theatre, but
unfortunately due to the circumstances, we have had to transfer to online. Everyone has worked so hard to make this performance come together and we are very excited to share it with you. We would like to say thank you to Sophia Hassenstein for hosting Virtual Yoga classes as part of our fundraising! We would also like to thank Robynne Harder and Michelle Yeung, who were amazing, helping us transfer to a virtual performance, as well as our wonderful Artistic Director, Patricia Fraser, who has been incredibly supportive of all of the students through this difficult time. Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to the second year class, who have worked through their Winter break to help with producing this show. Kayla Champis, Frédérique Perron, Co-Producers
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF TRADITIONAL LAND
The School of Toronto Dance Theatre would like to acknowledge the sacred land on which we operate, the site of human activity for over 15,000 years. This land is the
traditional territory of many nations: the Wendat, the Haudenosaunee, and the Anishinaabe, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land and to share our space with all peoples – those

I enjoyed creating the world of this piece as much as I savoured moving around and inside it. In these hard confined times, I discovered how to face myself and love it no matter where I am. In vast spaces or in a 10 x 12 empty bedroom, I am the only one who has the key to my identity where I can colour who I am. Self-love comes with me allowing myself to hear, see, and feel what’s moving, sometimes shaking inside my body. I discovered that my body never lies, while my head, sometimes, hides what she feels.
Special thank you to Ben King who helped me with filming and guided me in the music research. – FP

Despite it being morning, the sky is still dark. The moon was lowered to make way for the day, but there’s no sun in the sky. But just because you don’t know when the light will return, doesn't mean life has to be dark. Life is about more than the sun rising and setting, it's about you.
Special Thanks to my dearest friends, Garrison, Erika, Elie, and Jen for the incredible work and talent they put into everything they do, and a very special thanks to Alex Koren, who worked just as hard to create this idea that is larger than any of us. – BC

This is an exploration of movement using different improvisation prompts. I used this opportunity to expand my knowledge of dance on film and the intricate world of editing. I would like to thank Adèle Ross for her ongoing support and patience and Darryl Tracy for offering me creative guidance.

I had such a wonderful time making this film because I was authentically exploring where I was at that point in my summer. I wanted to dance outside to feel free and wild, so that is what I did. Thank you to my father for contributing some of his beautiful music. – AR

“The sailor does not control the sea, nor does the lucid dreamer control the dream. Like a sailor, lucid dreamers manipulate or direct themselves in the larger expanse of dreaming; however, they do not control it. Lucid dreaming appears to be a co-created experience.” – Robert Waggoner

This collaboration between music and movement explores a sense of belonging, comfort, and acceptance. How we can live within what we have and meet in the middle? Finding peace within simple existence. – CLB,

There are things that will never change, and there are things that will change constantly in life.
Every single day the sun comes up in the morning and goes down at night. Life is pretty simple, but humans make life complicated. Making this short dance film is exploring human life as a dancer and witnessing the things that are either changing or unchanging. – KY
