Simple Act of Kindness

--One person shared:

Our daily Mass parishioners help every Friday to

remove the spray bottles before All School Mass. There are more spray

bottles than parishioners attending Friday Mass, and they still manage

to help us before students come into the church. Their kindness to help

in this way is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

And another shared:

My husband told our daughter

-

in

-

law for no

ap-parent reason, "you're alright in my book."

We are a family who says

"I love you" often, but this was different.

I think it meant a lot for her to

hear his simple words, and it touched me to hear him being so kind.

Your kindness can brighten someone's day and by sharing your sim-ple act of kindness, you may inspire others to share kindness in the world as well! Please send an email

to: ASimpleActofKindness@sacredhearteureka.organd include a description of your simple act of kindness. We may publish anony-mous examples of kindness in the bulletin.

Basketball Refs needed

We are looking for anyone that is available to ref this basketball season. Certification/ badge would be awesome, but just looking for anyone that is comfortable refereeing. Please contact Jill Ecker, 314-283-4657

LENTEN OBSERVANCE AND RESOURCES—ARCHDIOCESE OF ST. LOUIS

ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN REGULATIONS

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world

might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)

The Church has always helped us fulfill these words of Jesus by prescribing very definite penance for all Catho-lics, so that we too might have Eternal life. Accordingly, the Pope and the American Bishops have outlined obliga-tory fast and abstinence as follows:

Ash Wednesday (February 17, 2021), all Fridays of Lent and Good

Fri-day (April 2, 2021)

are days of

abstinence

(refraining from meat) for all Catholics

from age 14 onwards.

On

these two days,

fast,

as well as

abstinence

, is also obligatory for those

from the ages of 18

-

59.

Abstinence

means refraining from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller meals and nothing between

meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic will lightly excuse himself or herself from this obligation.

We should strive to make all days of Lent a time of prayer and penance. Following are several

re-sources that can aid in finding different forms of prayer and penance.

February 14 & Ash Wednesday Music for Mass

Opening song—Gather Us In

(by Marty Haugen)

Here in this place new light is streaming now is the darkness vanished away.

See in this space our fears and our dreamings, brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in, the lost and forsaken,

Gather us in, the blind and the lame. Call to us now and we shall awaken, We shall arise at the sound of our name. We are the young, our lives are a mystery, we are the old who yearn for your face, we have been sung throughout all of history, called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in, the rich and the haughty, Gather us in, the proud and the strong Give us a heart so meek and so lowly Give us the courage to enter the song.

Responsorial Psalm

R: I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation.

Presentation of Gifts songFragrance Prayer

(by Tom Booth) Instrumental

Communion song—Open My Eyes

(by Jesse Manibusan)

Open my eyes, Lord Help me to see your face Open my eyes, Lord Help me to see.

Closing song—Open My Eyes

(by Jesse Manibusan)

Open my eyes, Lord Help me to see your face. Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see. Open my ears, Lord.

Help me to hear your voice. Open my ears, Lord.

Help me to hear.

Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love like you. Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love.

And the first shall be last, and our eyes are opened. And we'll hear like never before. And we'll speak in new ways,

and we'll see God's face in places we've never known.

Ash Wednesday
