Turku School of Economics has developed into an established and well-respected institution in international academia. Its many awards for research papers and the high-quality research-based teaching reflect how seriously TSE takes the need to meet international standards.

We take pride in our internationally recognised and respected personnel. We are proud of the networks that we form with our partners at other re-spected universities and with business, in Finland and abroad. We are also proud of our students who disseminate the unique knowledge offered by TSE. Without these networks, we would not be able to report our repeated success stories in teaching, research, and in making an impact on society. TSE is also renowned for its excellent facilities for studying and work. Di-verse learning methods are used, and interaction plays a major role in the education provided. The personnel of TSE endeavour to ensure that TSE excels in all its activities, and they also constantly seek new opportuni-ties to network and collaborate with respected international and national players. I can guarantee that collaboration with TSE is always a good in-vestment.

The eMBA Turku programme is strongly oriented to the future, and aims at providing knowledge and skills on how to look far ahead. Drawing from the specific areas of expertise in the faculty of the Turku School of Economics and the University of Turku, eMBA Turku programme creates great potential for growth in leadership. The particular strengths of the programme include an excellent student body and teachers, strong ties with the business world, unique processes for personal growth, and outstanding support for learning from a highly competent eMBA team. The structure of our highly regarded programme is based on four specific and unique focus areas: visionary leadership; global business excellence; innovation and new business creation; and personal growth. These perspectives are employed to create an executive programme with a balanced mix of latest academic knowledge, practical business competence, real-world business cases and company visits, development projects that benefit the company, and peer-learning. We believe in personal development that begins with acknowledging and appreciating one’s own potential and qualities as a leader. The journey far starts from near.

The classroom activities in the eMBA Turku programme are interactive, promoting inspiring discussions. Various learning methods are used, ranging from lecturing, group work, workshops, cases, debates, and company visits to reading material, assignments, and thesis work. The learning process is facilitated by TSE exe’s learning platform, which can be easily accessed with the Apple iPads the students are given. The foreign study trips included in the programme broaden the participants’ perspectives on business, deepen their understanding of the globalising business environment and enhance the skills they will require to lead international operations.

The versatile personal assignments included in the programme ensure

that the knowledge and skills acquired through study are instantly applied for the benefit of the student’s organisation. The participant can bring to the table a critical reflection of the current state of affairs, and will have consulted with experts and fellow students on problematic areas to offer an unparalleled source of insight into organisational development. The aim of the thesis work is to resolve a current, practical business challenge, in the student’s own organisation. Theories and results from academic research are used as analysis tools as well as sources for ‘lessons learned’ and fresh perspectives. In the process, the students not only gain expertise in the chosen topic but also enhance their analytical skills and hone their writing, reporting, and presentation abilities.

eMBA Turku offered a very good way to learn – I got a lot of new insights as we combined academic theory with practical things from day-to-day business and also from my own work experience. The diversity of the group and the inspiring fellow students gave me a lot during the studies and the network will be a valuable asset in the future as well. The studies started a personal growth process, which I believe will lift me to a totally different level as a person and as a leader.

We make available to our students the expertise of top national and international academics and business people who work at the forefront of global business research and in global business. These experts are highly motivated and committed to sharing their knowledge and experience with the participants in the eMBA Turku programme. Discussions and debates with them give the eMBA students an excellent opportunity to test their own beliefs and ways of working.

Programme Manager Pia Toivola TSE exe | Turku School of Economics

A leader often makes decisions alone. In eMBA Turku one of our goals is to offer for the participants possibilities for exchanging ideas and experiences. The peer mentoring process enables discussions regarding leadership and life in general with a fellow participant. During the final year, a group of qualified senior mentors offer their extensive experience for the use of eMBA participants.

Lifelong learning and

continuous development

Each eMBA Turku group contains 25–30 students, representing several industries, functions, age groups and cultural backgrounds. A group might include engineers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and medical doctors and the typical eMBA student has several years of management experience and a great leadership potential. A common feature of our participants is their willingness to learn more and develop themselves.

Participants contribute their varied experience and diverse perspectives to the programme. The students are willing to share their knowledge and experience and to learn with and from fellow students. Networking is an important part of the eMBA programme and future careers, and it also creates business opportunities within the group.

eMBA has given me a great opportunity to develop my skills as a leader working in a young and energetic work environment. One part of this development comes from the support of fellow students and the views from different businesses. I also feel that I have had a chance to influence what I study and how I am doing it.

Study journeys abroad

The eMBA Turku programme includes two mandatory and one optional international study journeys, which provide a truly global view by looking into businesses abroad, extending networks, and stimulating a well-developed cross-cultural competence. The programme of the study journeys is organised in cooperation with our highly acclaimed international partners.

Our international partners include: The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring China and the West together. As a top university in Hong Kong and Asia, CUHK aims to nurture students with both specialised knowledge and wisdom for life.

The eMBA Turku provided new perspectives for my leadership development and broadened my strategic thinking in particular. The high-standard international and domestic lectures, practical assignments, and interesting peer and senior mentoring sessions have offered the participants different views, so as to challenge the old ways of doing things. Company visits and study journeys abroad have brought an understanding of different organisations, businesses, business competencies and cultures.

Success through support and encouragement

Mentoring is an important part of the eMBA Turku. In peer mentoring, a

fellow student is used as a mirror of one’s leadership development and as a source of insight on one’s own strengths and weaknesses. In the final year of the eMBA Turku programme, experienced senior mentors support

The eMBA Turku offered me an excellent vantage point on business knowledge and provided management and leadership skills. Still, the greatest value for me as a young leader came in learning from the more experienced leaders and managers. Fellow students and the senior mentors were able to offer knowledge that can never be gained from books.

Jussi Juntunen

Area Manager for Southern Finland | Anvia Business Services For me, the peer mentoring process was mind opening. Networking with

The eMBA Turku alumni group offers an active forum for all eMBA graduates, so they can continue to share experiences with others after completing their studies. Organised events, seminars, and meetings offer opportunities to make new connections and to stay in contact with the Turku School of Economics.

Active learning and

networking opportunities

For me as an engineer, one of the main things I’ve learned in the eMBA programme is to see the different shades of grey, not just colours. I’ve recognised that what matters is how you use and apply the information and knowledge gained. The bonds within a diverse group of people with various backgrounds made the discussions colourful and fascinating. The eMBA Turku course made the students on the course a team, and the team became friends and ‘brothers-in-arms’ for life.

The alumni group creates a professional forum enabling graduates to keep abreast of the new academic studies, to continue their personal and professional growth, to have fun with friends, and even to do business.
