PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS: This pattern is written using American terminology and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. The finished product using the materials described in this pattern from the tip of Manu’s nose to his bottom is ~8 inches or 20.5 cm long.
SKILL LEVEL: Advanced beginner
MATERIALS REQUIRED (descriptions in brackets indicate those used in the pictured example):
1. Yarn (Drops Safran 4 ply in Beige (21), Brown (23), Denim Blue (06), White (17), Red (19))
2. Crochet hook in accordance with the yarn you use (2.5 mm)
3. Polyester fibrefill

6. Stitch markers, darning and embroidery needles
ABBREVIATIONS:
BLO = back loop only | ch = chain | dec = decrease | dc = double crochet | inc = increase | rnd = round | sc = single crochet | sl st = slip stitch | st = stitch
A very quick guide to the stitches used in this pattern in alphabetical order:
1. Chain (ch): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through loop on hook.
2. Decrease (dec): I prefer to use the “invisible” decrease. For this, insert hook into front loop of first stitch (from the front and under). Repeat into front loop of next stitch. Yarn over and pull loop through both loops on hook.
3. Double crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 3 loops on hook), yarn over, pull loop through both loops left on hook (there should be 2 loops left on hook), yarn over, pull loop through remaining loop on hook.
4. Increase (inc): Work two single crochets into the same stitch.
5. Magic ring: Wrap yarn around fingers to form a loop. Insert hook through middle of loop. Pull working end of yarn through ring and chain the required number of stitches through. Pull the yarn ends to close the loop.
6. Single crochet (sc): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop through stitch (there should be 2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull loop through both loops on hook. 7. Slip stitch (st): Insert hook, yarn over, pull loop

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing the ends of the scarf together later.
BERET (Start in Red)
Starting from the top of the beret
When you create the magic ring, leave a long starting yarn tail to create the loop at the top of the beret later. Rnd 1: Start 8 sc in a magic ring [8]
Rnd 5: (Sc in each of next 3 st, inc in next st) x 8 [40] Rnd 6: (Sc in each of next 4 st, inc in next st) x 8 [48] Rnd 7: (Sc in each of next 4 st, dec) x 8 [40]

With the starting yarn tail, create a loop at the top of the beret (Picture 6) and secure the end on the underside of the beret.
ASSEMBLY
1. Sew the front legs to the body. The front top corner of the leg should sit between Rnd 35 and 36, whilst the back top corner of the leg should sit between Rnd 32 and 33 (Picture 7). The front top corners should be 8 st apart in the front (Picture 8). I also sew two extra st on each leg (as indicated by the black lines) to keep the legs snug against the body. When you are attaching the legs, ensure that Manu stands evenly balanced.

2. Sew the back legs to the body. The front top corner of the leg should sit between Rnd 10 and 11, whilst the back top corner of the leg should sit between Rnd 6 and 7 (Picture 9). The back top corners should be 12 st apart in the back (Picture 10). I also sew two extra st on each leg (as indicated by the black lines) to keep the legs snug against the body. When you are attaching the legs, ensure that Manu stands evenly balanced.
3. Sew the ears to the head. The front top corner of the ear should sit between Rnd 26 and 27 of the head and the back top corner of the ear should sit between Rnd 30 and 31. The front top corners of the ears should be 16 st apart (Picture 11).
4. Sew the body to the head. I like to mark the bottom of the head with pins first to outline where the neck of the body is to be attached (Picture 12). The back of the neck falls between Rnd 31 and 32 (aqua pins indicate the back of the head). The front of the neck falls between Rnd 24 and 25 (pink pins indicate the front of the head).
5. Sew the tail to the back of his body. The tail should be between both legs and sewn between Rnd 5 and 6 of the body.
6. Wrap the scarf around Manu’s neck. Weave in the loose tails. With one of the loose tail ends, weave it to where the scarf will intersect. Overlap the ends of the scarf and use the yarn tail to sew the two sides together at where it intersects.
7. Sew the beret onto the top of Manu’s head. I
positioned the beret slightly to the left of his head. The front of the beret base falls between Rnd 22 and 23. The back of the beret base falls between Rnd 32 and 33.
Voilà! Your little Manu is all done! We hope that you had fun making him! ! We would love for you to share your creation with us!!
