Tuesday History – A Child’s War – Timeline of Significant Events
Create a timeline showing major events of the Second World War, between 1939 to 1945. Use a range of historical resources to find the dates for significant events, such as: the start of the war, the introduction of rationing, the first evacuations, the Battle of Britain, the Blitz, Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour, the official liberation of the prisoner of war camps, Hitler’s death, Churchill’s replacement by Attlee and Japan’s surrender. Order the events (attached towards the end of this document) in chronological order. Research at least 3 other wartime milestones and place them on your timeline.

Wednesday Geography – A Child’s War – Evacuation Locations
Look at UK maps to find the locations where children were sent during the evacuation process, using maps, online research, books and other sources. Click here to help you get started.
The UK had three designated areas in terms of evacuation:
- Evacuation areas: places that needed to be evacuated, often urban locations. - Reception areas: places that would receive evacuees, often rural locations. - Neutral areas: places would not receive evacuees nor send people away.
Suggest reasons why some areas of the country were more likely than others to be bombed. Use a key to show the areas targeted for attack and those used for evacuation. Use the map attached to the document below as a starting point.
PE- PE with Joe Wicks (Complete this live at 9am or catch up later in the day)
PSHE – A Child’s War – Evacuation Propaganda
Look at a range of posters and propaganda materials used during the war. Talk about how these presented evacuation to parents and to those who might offer homes to evacuees.
Examples of posters used at the time can be found online and some are also attached to this document towards the end. What messages did they give? How successful were they at reassuring parents?
Thursday French (via Zoom) Y6R Only (Y6C Only)
Design and Technology – A Child’s War – Anderson Shelters
Look at images of Anderson shelters to determine what they were made from and how they were constructed. Use a range of materials to construct a structurally sound miniature Anderson shelter. Use their structures to test loading capacity, using rubble or sand. Record your results, highlighting the most effective structures. Keep photographs from before and after testing.
Attached to this document below is a planning sheet and also some facts on Anderson Shelters to get you started.
Get outside and stretch your legs! Give yourself a screen break and explore the great outdoors. Send in some photos on dojo if possible.
Friday RE – Who was Jesus? Who is Jesus?
Read the extract Isaiah 9:6-7 and Philippians 2: 6-11 - using these passages to answer: Who was Jesus? Thinking about people who met Jesus e.g. his disciples, a person who he healed, Zacchaeus, a Pharisee, Jairus, Mary Magdalene, an onlooker in a crowd or a child – who was Jesus to each one of them? Write who was Jesus to the people who met him.
