Learning german the fun Way
german for all levelsTo get the young participants in our teen courses off to a good start, there is a short test at the beginning. This is to make sure our course participants are placed in the right course level. Communicative and interactive
Learning German at the Goethe-Institut means actively experienc-ing and usexperienc-ing the language in pairs and in groups, for example through role plays, with interviews or in small projects. The lessons are suited to the various age groups and contain plenty of variety. Speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar are linked in a meaningful way, quickly familiarizing the young learn-ers with the German language. The teaching language is German, of course.

In the leisure time program, the participants have enjoyable and informal opportunities to try out what they are learning in the lessons. An integral part of the teaching program are the excur-sions with the teacher to learn about Germany and its people. Im-mersion in a German-speaking environment, combined with our effective teaching methods, will ensure more fun for the learners through progress they can see within a short time.

Carefully selected course locations
Our young learners courses take place at renowned boarding schools, sports academies, conference centers and hotels in Germany’s most scenic regions.
The classrooms and dormitories are situated on a campus along with the sports facilities and green spaces.
Comfortable accommodation
In the boarding schools double rooms and dorm-style multi-bed rooms are available with a shower and WC. Boys and girls are ac-commodated separately. Some course locations offer single rooms, in some cases for an extra charge.
Meals with plenty of variety
Full board includes three substantial meals a day with plenty of variety. It also includes a selection of refreshments and snacks during course breaks and in the afternoon.
Vegetarian meals and dishes without pork are available at all mealtimes. We regret that we cannot offer Halal cooking or special mealtimes during Ramadan.

Programs for the entire dayWith our varied and action-packed leisure program, boredom doesn’t stand a chance. Every day our team of counselors offers a wide range of sports as well as creative, musical or cultural activities. We are also happy to accommodate special requests from our young guests whenever possible, provided that sufficient numbers of participants are interested.
Sporting activities for all interests
The boarding schools where the courses take place are situated amid beautiful scenery and have attractive indoor and outdoor sports facilities. With full supervision, the participants can play such sports as soccer, handball, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, table tennis and billiards. They can also go cycling, hiking and swimming. Depending on the course location various special activities such as riding, golf, rowing, canoeing, sailing and climbing may be available, to name just a few possibilities. designing and creating – while having fun
Creative activities such as theater, mime, painting, pottery, crafts, playing music, film making, photo contests, and helping with the course blog are an integral part of our courses – not to mention games, barbecue nights, disco evenings and movies.

Examples of excursions include sightseeing tours, visits to museums and exhibitions and trips to concerts, theater performances and movies. With these activities, complemented by our guided outings, our young course participants really get to know Germany.

the counselors
Our counselors are there for the course participants 24 hours a day. They plan the program of sports, cultural and leisure-time activities, taking the wishes of the participants into account. The counselors are available to deal with all everyday questions and concerns that arise during the course. They are handpicked by the Goethe-Institut for these courses and have a great deal of experience in working with children and teens.
On average, at least one counselor is available for a maximum of 16 course participants. The younger the participants, the more intensive the support by the counselors. This ensures the best possible leisure-time program and the right level of supervision.

the course leadersOur course leaders have plenty of experience in working with children and teens. On the campus they are responsible for organ-izing the lessons, the sports, culture and leisure-time program, and also for health and safety. They are available to the course participants and their parents at all times for any questions and suggestions, and are always ready to help or provide advice. Parents can contact the course leaders by e-mail or telephone. the teachers
The young participants in the Young Learners Program benefit from the expertise and qualifications of our teachers. Each class has its own class teacher. The lessons, with a maximum class size of 16, are designed with the age group in mind. The activities are varied, with plenty of changes of pace. Classroom activities take the form of a playful, interactive process. Naturally our teachers respond to individual abilities and learning objectives and are pleased to help when learners have special requests. They are also available outside classroom hours for advice and individual study assistance. The classroom teachers accompany their classes on the excursions for getting to know Germany and its people.

The course participants, who already have basic skills on a musical instrument, or in voice or acting, take part in workshops under professional guidance to develop their talents further. The participants will work in international groups where they will have the opportunity to make new musical discoveries and explore them in ensembles, for example by rehearsing a musical theater production.
Rental instruments are available for the duration of the course. Prices vary according to instrument.
Rounding off the program are a wide range of additional extracur-ricular activities such as soccer and volleyball, tennis, swimming, hiking, jogging and two day excursions. Naturally the participants will also be attending concerts.

After learning German in the morning, you’ll put on your spikes after lunch to hone your soccer skills or play other sports. Our German plus Soccer course is the ideal program for all girls and boys who love soccer and want to improve their German through fun learning activities in an international atmosphere.
The course participants will also learn about soccer theory and tactics with a certified trainer. And of course we’ll be taking the course participants to a professional soccer match.
Rounding off the sporting activities on this program are volleyball, basketball and field hockey, swimming and tennis. Also included are numerous other leisure-time activities such as excursions, sightseeing, movie nights and barbecues.

This popular vacation and spa town is located in the wooded hills just to the south of Göttingen. Bad Sachsa has a modern indoor pool and a summer ice skating rink. The idyllic surroundings are also ideal for walking and hiking.
Our courses take place in a boarding school in a quiet location on the outskirts of the town right next to the spa park. The ensemble of historical and modern buildings includes indoor and outdoor sports facilities. It is only 3 kilometers to the Waldsee, a very pleasant lake for swimming, and the small Bad Sachsa shopping street is just a short walk from the school.

With its nearly 4 million inhabitants, Berlin is Germany’s capital and a global hotbed of contemporary culture. For the young adults attending our courses, this city offers plenty of sights to see and things to do. They can personally experience Berlin’s exciting music scene and youth culture.
The participants are accommodated in a centrally located youth hotel in the west of the city, not far from the renowned Potsdam-er Platz. In addition to an extensive sports program, we arrange group outings to concerts, museums and exhibitions, movie nights and other activities. The course fee includes a Berlin Ticket for free use of public transportation.

Wannsee is a prosperous, leafy suburb between Berlin and Pots-dam, about 25 kilometers from the center of Germany’s capital. Situated amid several lakes, Wannsee has long been beloved by Berliners as a spot for pleasant daytrips. The youth guesthouse – a beautifully renovated turn-of-the-century villa with accommoda-tion in the adjoining modern building – is situated right on the shore of Wannsee, surrounded by woods and greenery. The spa-cious common rooms include a theater where our young course participants can put on plays. They can also enjoy many different sports activities. During the course we take trips to see the sights and museums in Berlin and explore the surrounding area. The young people attending this course will never run out of
exciting sights, events and excursion destinations in this youthful, creative metropolis. Apart from a fun sports program with lots of variety, we organize outings to concerts, museuwms and exhibi-tions as well as movie nights and other activities.
The course takes place in the IB Hotel at the Schlachtensee Lake. Zehlendorf, in the southern part of Berlin, is a typical well-estab-lished neighborhood with large houses on spacious grounds amid lakes, forests and parks.
Trains leaving the Schlachtensee S-Bahn station, just a five-minute walk from the school, take less than 30 minutes to reach the center of Berlin.

Bovenden, near Göttingen, is situated beneath the medieval fortress of Plesse along the German scenic route known as the “fairy tale road”. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the city or making daytrips to the enchanting castles in the area. The Mariaspring conference center has well-appointed common rooms and spacious sporting facilities. The surroundings offer plenty of options if you love the outdoors, including bicycle tours, hikes or climbing in the rope-climbing grounds. Other fun activities include swimming in the natural woodland pool and caneoing. The nearby university city of Göttingen with its vibrant student life offers a wealth of cultural events and is a shopping paradise.
The city of Bonn is situated amid picturesque, hilly scenery on the Rhine. The young learners attending our courses love touring the Rhine valley by bicycle and taking daytrips to the nearby city of Cologne.
The modern guesthouse in the International Youth Forum is surrounded by a beautiful park. For music lovers we have instruments and a practice room with a piano. We use the guesthouse’s spacious recreational facilities for many different sports activities. The tram stops right outside the school, and takes just 15 minutes to reach the center of Bonn. We take our course participants on city tours, visits to exhibitions and excursions in the surrounding area.

Nearby are the medieval towns of Hildesheim and Hameln as well as Hanover, the state capital, with its lively cultural scene and excellent shopping.
The spacious campus of the Christopherusschule provides plenty of room for sporting activities, and the integrated music school offers the opportunity to experience music and dance. Course participants who enjoy creative activities have access to a studio and workshops, and horse enthusiasts can go riding at the stables located on the school grounds.

Our courses take place in the Bodenrod learning center, set amid lush greenery with spacious grounds. The sports field is in a woodland setting, and is perfect for ball games. Our classes love going to the nearby Hochtaunus Nature Preserve for hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities. On warm summer evenings, film fans can watch the latest blockbusters in the large open air cinema in the courtyard of a nearby castle.

The romantic village of Grainau, located near the Austrian border at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain (2962 m), is one of the most beautiful localities in the Bavarian Alps.
Course participants are housed in the well-appointed Grainau seminar center. We take advantage of our perfect Alpine location to take our course participants on hikes and nature walks. To swim we go to the nearby Zugspitzbad, a water park with an indoor and outdoor pool. The school’s indoor fitness center is equipped for all kinds of ball games, badminton, squash and tennis.

The Gaienhofen Castle boarding school is situated on a peninsula right on the shore of beautiful Lake Constance. The lakeside town of Radolfzell and the university city of Constance are within easy reach.
The “nine-towered castle” – the historical Baroque heart of the building – is surrounded by modern facilities: Classrooms, a din-ing hall, gymnasium, a student cafe and various sports fields and courts. The school buildings contain a library, a music room, an internet café and a disco. Participants are accommodated in the modern boarding school living quarters. Our exciting recreational activities on Lake Constance include such special water sports as sailing, rowing and canoe hikes.

The Hohenwart Forum is situated amid idyllic hilly scenery at the northern end of the Black Forest, between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, near the renowned Maulbronn Abbey.
The Forum’s modern campus has fully equipped classrooms and well-appointed accommodation for course participants. The leisure-time opportunities include something for everyone, with plenty of creative and cultural activities as well as a wide range of sports and outdoor fun. We use a nearby gymnasium for various ball games and we have access to an indoor pool. We also go on interesting hikes with the course participants. A perennial favorite on the leisure program in Hohenwart is the class trip to experi-ence the romantic city of Heidelberg.

Marquartstein is a lovely little town in the Chiemgau Alps be-tween Munich and Salzburg at the heart of a region popular with hikers and those seeking quiet and relaxation. The surrounding area offers a vast range of attractions.
The boarding school is at the edge of the town on a mountain slope. Housed on the generous, park-like campus are the living quarters and the school building as well as spacious sports and recreation facilities, workshops and a theater. Participants can also go horseback riding and play tennis. The surrounding Alpine foothills present limitless opportunities for swimming, hiking and cycling.

Bad Malente is a popular fresh air spa near Kiel in northern Germany. It is situated amid scenic hills in a quiet, wooded setting between two lakes.
We offer our summer course in the Haus Godensande boarding school in the middle of the town of Malente. Many fun activities are available on the school grounds, such as beach volleyball and other sports, or just relaxing around a campfire for a barbecue. All of the young people on our courses enjoy swimming, hiking, table tennis and the class outings to the lake. Naturally our extracur-ricular program includes an excursion to a destination in northern Germany.

The German plus Music course brings together young learners to make music and stage plays as a group while learning German. Under the guidance of professional music and drama teachers they spend three weeks preparing a program for a public perform-ance at the end of the course.
The Max Josef Stift, a boarding school with a long tradition, is situated in the beautiful neighborhood of Bogenhausen. With its many rehearsal rooms it is the ideal facility for this course. The nearby Alps, the many lakes and the Bavarian royal castles also guarantee that the students will find plenty to see and do during their free time. The Rangsdorf boarding school is just a few kilometers south of Berlin on the shore of Lake Rangsdorf, in an idyllic setting in the Brandenburg countryside. Designated as a conservation area, the surroundings of the school are perfect for those who love sports and the outdoors.
Our young course participants always love the many water sports they can do here such as swimming, canoeing and sailing. For landlubbers we offer basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess. The Nordsee boarding school has its own gymnasium. On the nearby beach and in the school’s own sports facilities, you can en-joy many activities ranging from ball games to tennis, horseback riding and cycling to special sports such as golf, inline skating and beach volleyball. If you wish, you can also join us on an outing to the exciting Dünentherme water park on the North Sea coast, where most of the pools are fed with seawater.

Weimar, in the state of Thuringia, is an important cultural and university city. The unique ensemble of castles, churches, the historic city center with its museums and the parklands along the Ilm river are listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site.
The European Youth Education Centre is surrounded by greenery, just a five-minute walk from the city center. The historic Reithaus is situated amid modern facilities, with an indoor/outdoor pool close by. We take our course participants on city tours, visits to exhibitions and excursions in the surrounding area.

Situated in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, the village of Stein an der Traun is a nature-lover’s paradise. It is close to Chiemsee, Bavaria’s largest lake, and the medieval towns of Burghausen and Wasserburg.
The romantic castle that houses the boarding school is situated at the center of Stein. The campus offers plenty of sports facilities as well as music rooms and workshops for creative activities. In the surrounding area our young guests will find a golf course and swimming lakes. We take our course participants on various outings, for example cycling, jogging and hiking as well as visits to the castles and monasteries in the surrounding area. The nearby town of Traunreut offers very good shopping opportunities.

Clothing
Participants need appropriate clothing for sports and cold, rainy weather (rainwear, sweaters, close-toed shoes, gym kit). Laundry services are available at all locations. Clothing should be labeled with your child’s name.
Pocket money
We recommend pocket money of about €80/week. It is kept in the safe for the duration of the course and handed out at certain times. Airline tickets and passports are also kept in the safe. house rules
House rules apply at the boarding schools. They regulate such matters as quiet during night hours, smoking and alcohol consumption for the various age groups. House rules are made known at the start of the course and are binding for all partici-pants.
In case of violations, the team reserves the right to contact
parents. If necessary, consequences may extend to a written reprimand and expulsion from the course.

Arrival and departure
Most of our young guests arrive unaccompanied by plane. At the destination airport they are met by our Goethe-Institut counselor teams (identifiable by their yellow T-shirts and name tags) and supervised if there is a wait before the departure of the transfer buses to the course locations.
We also organise the airport transfer on the departure date. Departing students are accompanied by Goethe-Institut staff mem-bers until they check in at the airport. (Exception: young adults program in Berlin and Munich).

ing arrival and departure times and flight numbers. This accompanied transfer service by Goethe-Institut staff is
available only on the first and last days of the course. An additional charge for an individual airport transfer applies
to participants arriving after 6 p.m. or before 7 a.m. Supervision and care
The supervision and care of the under-18 participants attend-ing our courses is a top priority of the team runnattend-ing our young people’s programs.
Teens under 18 years of age are allowed to leave the campus at
certain times and in small groups, and only with the permis-sion of the course leaders.
By prior arrangement between parents and course leaders,
children and teens may leave the campus at weekends to visit friends or relatives. However, this means that they will miss the leisure-time program.
When children and teens are picked up by friends or relatives,
we require permission in writing from parents, specifying the people who are picking up their children.
6.3. If the results of the final placement test differ significantly from the preliminary placement test, the participant will be assigned to a suitable course, provided such a course is available at the same location. 6.4. In the event that there is no suitable course at the original course location,
the local institute will offer the participant the opportunity to take the same course at a Goethe-Institut in another city. In this case, the partici-pant shall decide whether to take the originally scheduled course or to travel to a different institute for the suggested course. The participant shall bear the costs for any change in course location.
6.5. All courses shall be limited to a maximum of 16 participants unless other-wise stated in the course program.
7. Responsibilities of participants
7.1. It is the responsibility of the course participant to ensure that his or her stay in Germany is in compliance with the law. The Goethe-Institut assumes that participants have all the necessary legal documents to enter Germany and to reside there for the duration of their studies. 7.2. After making full payment of the course fees the course participant will
be provided with accident insurance and basic medical insurance coverage for medically necessary treatments. However, the medical insurance does not cover treatments or benefits related to illnesses or complaints arising prior to the beginning of the language course, any illnesses or accidents resulting from the effects of drugs or alcohol, or any additional medical supplies or devices, test reports or certificates. For necessary dental treat-ment, the maximum reimbursement is limited to €260 as well as payment for a necessary root canal treatment. For further information on the extent of insurance coverage, please contact the GI head office, Department D03 (Young Learners Programs). As a result of the above, the participant is personally responsible for ensuring that he/she has full coverage. 7.3. Participants are obliged to comply with the course rules and house rules
applicable to the Goethe-Instituts. 8. Liability of goethe-Institut e.V.
The liability for damage and legal responsibility of GI and its employees is limited to willful misconduct and gross negligence. In particular, neither the GI nor its employees are liable for the cancellation of its services due to acts of God, labor disputes, or reasons resulting from negligence or other causes that are not the fault of the GI.
9. data protection
The participant hereby consents to the electronic storage and processing of his/her data by GI for proper processing of enrolment, billing and course records. The course participant consents to continue receiving information from the Goethe-Institut.
10. Applicable law; place of jurisdiction
10.1. This contract is subject to German law. In all other respects the statutory regulations shall apply.
10.2. Should sections or individual formulations in these terms and conditions prove invalid or ineffective, this shall have no effect on the remaining sections and their validity. The ineffective provision shall be replaced by the legally admissible provision that most closely approximates the content and economic effect of the ineffective provision.
10.3. The parties hereby agree to Munich as the venue for any and all disputes arising from this contract.
terms and Conditions
1. general Requirements
Course participants must be at least nine years of age and cannot be over 21 years of age.
2. terms of Payment
2.1. After enrolment, the course participant will receive a booking confirma-tion. An invoice will be sent with the confirmation, indicating a payment deadline.
2.2. If full payment is not received by the due date, the participant will lose the right to participate.
2.3. In such cases, the Goethe-Institut (referred to hereinafter as “GI”) is still entitled to the course fee.
3. Prices
3.1. The price list applicable at the time of registration, which is attached to the registration form, is an integral part of the contractual relationship. 3.2. Should a participant wish to change his or her booking (e.g. the course
date), then the first such change is free of charge. Each additional booking change is subject to a €60 fee.
3.3. All bank charges related to the payment of the course fee shall be borne by the course participant.
4. Cancellation
4.1. The following conditions apply if the course participant is unable to take part in the course:
In case of cancellation no later than four weeks prior to the start of the
course, only an administrative fee of €160.00 is charged.
In case of cancellation no later than one week prior to the start of the
course, GI will withhold 30% of the course fee, but at least the adminis-trative fee of €160.00.
In case of a cancellation up to one day before the start of the course, GI
will withhold 50% of the course fee, but at least the administrative fee of €160.00.
If a participant fails to appear for or withdraws from the course, there is
no entitlement to a refund.
We advise participants to take out insurance coverage for costs incurred
if they are unable to travel.
4.2. The date of receipt of cancellation shall be the date of receipt at the Goethe-Institut head office in Munich.
5. Arrival
5.1. If the student cannot arrive on the first day of the course, then the Head Office must be informed.
5.2. If such notification is not received, GI can make other arrangements for the participant’s place on the course. If the place on the course can be filled by another participant, GI can retain at least an amount of €160 to cover its administration costs.
5.3. If the place cannot be filled by another participant, the participant shall remain entitled to the place. In any case the course participant is required to pay the course fees in full.
6. Course level assignment / class size
6.1. Preliminary placement in a course level is based on the results of the pre-liminary placement test and the information provided in the participant’s enrolment form.
6.2. The final assignment to a course level is made on the basis of the place-ment test carried out at the course location on the arrival date.
