Welcome to Davenport

The Midwest Conference will be in Davenport, Iowa, located

on the beautiful riverfront of the Mighty Mississippi River.

Davenport has an active downtown with much to do and see. Walkers, bikers, and joggers can

enjoy the bike trail that runs along the river, just across River Drive from the Radisson. In winter,

bald eagles arrive to feed in the open water below the lock and dam.

Davenport residents and visitors also enjoy the city for its entertainment, arts, music and recreation.

Recommended places to visit that are within a short walk of the conference site are the

Bucktown

Center for the Arts

,

Adler Theater

, and the

Figge Art Museum

.

If breweries or a distillery is more your style, check out the Front Street Brewery, a brew pub, or its

tasting room at the Freight House, which offers a wonderful view of the Mississippi. The

Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire is known for its awarding winning Vodka. The

Great River Brewery on 2

nd

Street is a short walk from the Radisson.

The Village of East Davenport, two miles upriver, is updated to include gift and art shops,

restaurants, and coffee shops.

Lagomarcino Confectionary

is located in the Village. Lago’s is a

locally owned chocolate store with an old fashioned soda fountain atmosphere. Great ice cream

sundae options and locally made candies are available. Right across from the Radisson is another

well known local chocolate shop, Country Manor Chocolates. Country Manor offers delightful

homemade and hand dipped chocolates. Many great gift ideas can be found at these shops.

Davenport is the home of Frank Fritz, seen on cable TV’s “American Pickers.” Fritz was born and

raised in Davenport, where he met Mike Wolfe. They discovered their shared joy of collecting

what others may see as junk. Their shop,

Antique Archaeology

, is in LeClaire, IA, just 15 miles

upriver from Davenport.

If you are not interested in venturing out of downtown Davenport, join your social work friends on

Thursday November 7 for a night of local hospitality at the

Blackhawk Bowl & Martini Lounge

at

historic Blackhawk Hotel, just a block from the Radisson. At 9:00 p.m.

these modern lanes have

been reserved for you and your friends to relax, enjoy good

company, a martini, and bowl a game
