Welcome
Welcome to the 48
thAnnual Mee ng at the Hilton Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Florida!
I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as President of FSHP during the past year. It has
been an exci ng, but challenging year producing more collabora on among our members who
have served on our Councils, but especially with our fellow colleagues from the Florida Pharmacy
Associa on (FPA) and the Florida Independent Pharmacy Network (FIPN).
The Execu ve Commi ee, Board of Directors and Council/Commi ee Chairs have dedicated a
signi
fi
cant por on of their me voluntarily to serve you, the member. The FSHP Regional
delegates have likewise volunteered their me and energy to address resolu ons brought forth to
the House of Delegates by expressing their thoughts and opinions while represen ng the interests
of their regional members. These delegates help to con nuously improve and re
fi
ne our structure
and mission. The HOD, along with leadership of all the Regional Socie es keeps all of us united
into one state organiza on speaking with ‘One Voice’. The Regional Society Officers are the direct
connec on con nuously between their local members and FSHP. Strong Regional Officers are the
founda on of FSHP’s mission and are the future FSHP leadership.
The theme of our program
“Naviga ng the Oceans of Opportunity”
reassures you that pharmacy prac ce is con nuing to evolve
and con nuously present new challenges that we must meet in order to be prepared for expanding prac ce roles as we
fi
ght for
recogni on of provider status. This issue is currently our top priority and coinciding with the poli cal and lobbying support of our
na onal pharmacy organiza ons.
I am very pleased to announce that our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Steven W. Gray, Pharm.D., J.D. of the California Society of Health‐
System Pharmacists, will give his presenta on on “Achieving Provider Status and What Does That Mean?”. This speaker was
carefully chosen and we are very proud to be able to collaborate with CSHP and their experience with this issue.
The FSHP 48
thAnnual Mee ng is full of exci ng and relevant topics with speakers who will share their exper se with you so that
you may navigate this professional oceans of opportunity. The Educa onal Affairs Council has done another outstanding job, but
they need your construc ve feedback and sugges ons so that we may keep our programs contemporary and relevant to meet
your educa onal needs.
We welcome ASHP President Christene Jolowsky, who will be speaking on the
Ask the Expert Panel
along with others who we feel
can bring insight to speci
fi
c areas of our profession. The installa on of the new FSHP Board of Directors and our incoming
President will follow. You won’t want to miss this exci ng event.
I would be remiss if I did not thank our dedicated FSHP office staff, Pam, Tamekia, and Kevin, who have worked relessly to
coordinate this Annual Mee ng. Without their extremely conscien ous efforts, this organiza on would not operate as seamlessly
as it would appear. There is much more work going on behind the scenes than you would expect as the casual member observer.
Working with them for the past
fi
ve years, I cannot thank them enough for the tremendous amount of unsel
fi
sh achievements that
are accomplished because of them. Please take a moment to thank them during the mee ng.
For many years the FSHP leadership has worked to make our organiza on grow professionally and create a
fi
nancial base that
allows the organiza on to be of greater service to our members as they learn and apply that knowledge to improve the care of our
pa ents. That is the reason we are here.
The viability of this organiza on calls on its leaders to be dedicated and requires more hours of work and a visionary mission than
perhaps new members would know. In order to sustain this leadership to advance the role of pharmacy prac ce and con nue to
earn the respect of our healthcare colleagues, we must have the par cipa on of all of our members. I urge you to not to be
passive about your profession because it can be regulated to our disadvantage. If you have a strong desire to make a difference in
your profession and help it grow and compete in the healthcare arena, please give considera on to how you can be more involved
with FSHP. Talk with any member of the Execu ve Commi ee, Board of Directors or office staff for more informa on. We need
YOU! For this 48
thAnnual Mee ng, your sa sfac on is our greatest reward. I hope that you all appreciate the educa on, establish
new networking skills, and enjoy the chance to see old friends and make new ones as well.
Now...go out there and NAVIGATE THAT OCEAN OF OPPORTUNITY!
