Summer/Fall Special Wine Selections

Anne Bavard-Brooks “La Combe” 2014 (Puligny-Montrachet) 90

A secret find from a local Bartender, Crows Nest, now owner of this small boutique winery (200 case production) in a domaine at the heart of the wine village of Puligny-Montrachet. A wine with a pleasing crisp attack is followed by a marked fullness and good balance. The accent on the fruit is showing good maturity against nuances of vanilla and new oak, with a satisfying mineral finish. It can be enjoyed with shellfish, fish or terrine and can be cellared up to five years or more in good conditions. Etude Pinot Noir 2012 (Carneros) 70

The 2012 Pinot Noir exhibits copius aromas of forest floor, strawberries, black cherries, hints of Allspice and herbs. Medium bodied, beautifully textured and complex. 91 points RP. Flora Springs “Trilogy” 2007 (Napa Valley) 145

This vintage is another great expression of the terrior of the Napa Valley. The blend features aromas of oak and cherry, moving into the classic Cabernet flavors of black cherry and cassis. Accented by hints of raspberry, tobacco, plum and a ruby richness, the wine has a firm tannin structure that makes it approachable now. Elegant and full of fruit flavor, this wine has all the elements that have made Trilogy famous for the past 20 years. Joseph Phelps “Insignia” 2009 (Napa Valley) 325

The opaque, inky color of the 2009 Insignia is followed by concentrated aromatics of black fruit, graphite, coffee, dark cocoa powder, licorice, and cola syrup. The dense flavors and balanced tannins integrate beautifully for a long, layered finish. 95 points RP. Opus One Cabernet 2008 (Oakville) 335

Opus One Cabernet 2009 (Oakville) 345

Opus One Cabernet 2010 (Oakville) 355

Opus One Cabernet 2011 (Oakville) 385

Opus One Cabernet 2012 (Oakville) 395

Combining two of the biggest names in wine, Opus One brings together Mondavi and Mouton Rothschild with the goal of making world class wine in the Napa Valley. Lucia Pinot Noir 2013 (Garys’ Vineyard) 120

Lucia Pinot Noir 2013 (Santa Lucia Highlands) 90

Lucia Pinot Noir 2012 (Soberanes Vineyard) 106

With generations of farming history in Monterey County and a commitment to making exceptional wines, the Pisoni Family handcrafts the Lucia wines from the Pisoni, Garys’ and Soberanes Vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Mount Eden Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 (Santa Cruz Mountains) 120

The style of the 2011 is transparency, both in texture and flavor. This is not a brooding, tense vintage which needs 15 years to open. Classic blueberry and cassis aromas tinged with earth on the nose is followed by sweet oak and blackberry fruits on the palate, again tinged with earth notes in the finish. Roar Pinot Noir 2013 (Santa Lucia Highlands) 85

Roar Wines showcase the signature flavors of their Santa Lucia Highlands vineyards in a small portfolio of single vineyard and appellated bottlings. Pisoni Estate Pinot Noir 2011 (Santa Lucia Highlands) 140

Bright ruby red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry-cola and dark berries, with a strong kick of fresh flowers. From the vineyards of the master growers of the Pisoni Family. Sea Smoke “Southing” Pinot Noir 2012 (Santa Rita Hills) 130 Named after the fog that floods its way from the ocean up the Santa Ynez River valley, Sea Smoke has

quickly become one of the most sought after Pinot Noirs in California. Light to medium garnet in color, with a nose of dried and fresh flowers, then blueberries. Raspberry, vanilla, and red currant flavors create a voluptuous mouthfeel, with light tannins that are balanced by the vineyards’ cool climate acidity.
