 Directed and coordinated the Infertility Prevention Women’s Project. Provided centralized project management in eight southeastern states - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Tennessee to reduce chlamydia and gonorrhea infections, sexual health disparities, and promote

reproductive health among women.

 Collaborated with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Office of Population Affairs, Family Planning, Pharmaceuticals, Directors of Public Health Laboratories and Community-based organizations to reduce the prevalence of chlamydia and gonorrhea among sexually active young women

 Conducted regional board meetings (2 times per year) and workshops, participated in training of public health personnel and facilitated exchanges between states.

 Developed a five-year strategic plan to reduce STDs in the southeastern states.

 Developed a handbook for healthcare providers on the epidemiology, screening, diagnosis, management and complications of chlamydia and gonorrhea.

 Monitored chlamydia and gonorrhea surveillance in eight states and maintained the largest chlamydia and gonorrhea prevalence monitoring dataset in the US. Doubled the number of annual chlamydia screenings to 1 million persons in the southeast.

 Consulted and provided technical assistance to project areas at regional and state levels to promote best practices in STD prevention.

 Analyzed state and regional STD data and utilized data for program planning, monitoring, and evaluation.

 Authored or co-authored articles and research findings in peer-reviewed journals (two studies cited in the popular press).

 Presented research findings at professional meeting and conferences.

TB Control Program, Hillsborough County Health Department, Tampa, FL

Established and directed the tuberculosis (TB) surveillance programs in two counties in Florida.

 Directed the Tuberculosis Control Program with a staff of 25 employees including management of TB field operations, surveillance, outreach staff and clinic activities.

 Expanded outreach staff to promote direct observed therapy (DOT), education, treatment and prevention.

 Managed TB surveillance data, analyzed data and prepared reports for program planning and evaluation.

 Consulted and provided technical assistance in TB prevention and control to TB staff, health care providers, hospital infection control nurses and community based agencies.

 Computerized the TB control program and established one of the largest computerized TB registries in the United States.

 Implemented and evaluated quality control measures and negotiated with hospitals and local providers to increase the reporting of TB cases.

 Presented TB surveillance findings at seminars and workshops.

 Increased access to TB services to migrant workers. Aug 1991-Jan 1994 Disease Intervention Specialist

 Maintained a case load of HIV patients and followed them for additional services and treatment.

 Investigated contacts, suspects, and associates of syphilis and HIV patients and managed a caseload of infected contacts.
