Compass Ferry Reservations allows complex ferry routes to be booked from any office - online, on the move, over the phone and using offices and kiosks, whilst giving full visibility of bookings to your management team.

Our web reservation software is highly secure and integrates fully with the main reservations system and ships’ manifests. The system also uses secure storage for the processing of credit, debit and smart card information with PCI compliance for web-bookings and Chip & PIN port ticketing.

Compass is ideal for contact centre bookings and smaller port offices.

Compass Ferry Software is your robust solution for remote, demanding and complex ferry

services - including inter-island, multi vessel, routes, fares, tickets and configurations.

Easy to use and integrate, our Compass Ferry Ticketing software and handheld machines allows operators to issue printed tickets at the point of transaction and on open decks. Our port ticketing system can be operated online or offline so that even if network connectivity is lost customers can still be ticketed. The port ticketing system can be integrated to reservations depending on the needs of the Port. It includes quick ticketing systems for use at Point of Sale in Port offices including payment by cash, credit/debit card, and allow for multi-journey, staff travel and season tickets. We also offer a range of self-service kiosk solutions to help enhance customer service with self-service ticket sales and timetable information.

Our systems have been designed to make ticket issuing and collection as fast as possible – critical on short routes. For example – tickets can be collected by hand and then scanned enmasse once all customers are ticket. The software also provides a thorough audit trail – tracking all data and system changes from payment processing through to route, concession, tour and rail allocation.

Our robust ticket machines are designed to withstand very harsh weather and salt air conditions – with IP67 rated screens that can be read in sunlight and are proven on the open decks of ferries. Our printers have flexible paper handling, to cope with a variety of widths and lengths of tickets.

The mobile printer can read a contact smart-card which can hold multi-journey, season ticket or concessionary details. Want to operate your own smart card scheme? We can provide all the hardware and software required.

PDMS have recently developed online systems to help ferry operators model complex fares and timetables. Our easy to use software replaces complicated Excel spreadsheets with a more user friendly, secure and scalable solution. You can quickly create and store different versions of fares information, create new routes and fares and run “what if” scenario testing. The software is flexible to accommodate a wide range of standard and non-standard fare types.

Our timetabling and scheduling system makes it easy for ferry operators to analyse the consequences of any timetable changes and manage the timetable change and roll out process – whilst also providing performance management and modelling tools. You can create new routes, new timetables and new schedules, run “what if” scenarios and assign vessels to timetables for capacity planning purposes.

Both the fares and timetable and scheduling modelling systems are provided on a fully managed basis which means you don’t need to worry about infrastructure, security or business continuity.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (Steam Packet) provides a vital and unique ferry service to the Isle of Man, servicing both public and commercial travel. The company carries around 600,000 passengers and 170,000 cars and motorcycles every year, connecting the Isle of Man to Heysham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin by sea.

With 75% of their customers choosing to book online, the Steam Packet recognised that they needed to invest in an updated online booking system and integrated back office business system that could:

Improve customer service Increase operational efficiencies Service future business needs

Isle of Man

Steam Packet Company

In Phase 1, PDMS Maritime rebuilt the Steam Packet website, and its interface into their reservations system, using PDMS’ Content Management System. The new bespoke website offers a more secure online payment process. Phase 2, which is currently underway, will replace the existing reservations system, consolidate their existing systems, and migrate existing data into PDMS’ FoundationsTM platform. The result will be a fully integrated, stable and

maintainable architecture, which can be tailored to the Steam Packet’s future needs.

With over 54 million gross tonnage of ships flying the Bahamas flag in every corner of the globe, the Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) is one of the world’s largest International Ship Registers.

The BMA uses the PDMS MARIS platform with the addition of a custom-built Bahamas Online Registration System (BORIS).

Online services, built into BORIS by PDMS, support the international nature of the BMA’s business – it operates across multiple time zones and accepts multiple currencies.

Ship-owners and their agents have online access to the system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. BORIS provides remote access to employees and stakeholders, who no longer need to be in a specific office location to complete their work.

Remote working via one centralised system has reduced the operating costs of their satellite offices in different countries. Staff can work from any location where they have internet access. Collaboration and information sharing between teams, and between international offices, has also greatly improved.

Dick Welsh

Director, Isle of Man Ship Registry

The Isle of Man Ship Registry (www.iomshipregistry.com), a Category One Red Ensign Group member, was established as an international register in 1984. It is consistently named as one of the best quality registries in the world in the Shipping Industry State Performance table. The Registry has been using a version of PDMS MARIS for a significant number of years and its staff have been a driving force behind its development.

Tangible benefits that MARIS has delivered to the Isle of Man Registry include: Considerable time savings in the production of certificates and documents. A 90% reduction in certificate errors.

Increased audit efficiencies and accessibility to key information to service audits.

Key data for the IMO and Clarkson’s can now be generated and extracted quickly and easily from MARIS, enabling the Registry to be proactive rather than reactive.

Registration turnaround times have improved by over 50%.

The Red Ensign Group (REG) is a group of British shipping registers with thirteen member countries. These are made up from the United Kingdom, its Crown Dependencies (such as the Isle of Man) and its Overseas Territories, all of whom operate British Shipping Registers.

PDMS Maritime designed and developed the Red Ensign Group website (www. redensigngroup.org) to provide important information about its member countries, and publish news articles. REG members update the information on this site directly using PDMS’ easy-to-use content management system.

The Red Ensign Group also uses PDMS’ DoxShare, which is accessible via the REG website through a secure login. They use DoxShare to manage REG documentation, particularly with respect to their annual International REG Conference and technical forums. This enables REG members to access papers and documents, submit updates and publish/obtain new versions, from any internet-enabled location at any time.
