Communication made simple

Welcome to Swisscom

With a mobile phone you can do much more than just make calls: listen to missed calls, send SMS and MMS messages, download information, pictures and music and much, much more. You made the right choice in choosing Swisscom, because we can offer you a quality network with the best possible coverage and excellent value for money. This brochure describes our key services and user instructions.

Important: Personal data

The new Federal Mail and Telecommunications Monitoring Act (BUePF) requires all Swiss mobile network operators to record personal details about and data generated by their prepaid customers.

Swisscom stores this data for a minimum period of two years and provides the responsible authorities with relevant information thereon in accordance with the legal provisions.

Note

In this document the term Call key refers to the call set-up key. Depending on your handset, this may be marked with OK, YES, SEND or a green telephone symbol.

1. Getting started

How PINs protect your phone.

1.1 Entering your PIN

PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. PIN 1 protects your phone against un - authorised use, whilst PIN 2 activates and deactivates individual functions. Both numbers are provided with your SIM card.

After switching on your phone, you must first enter PIN 1 correctly. Otherwise, you will not be able to make calls with your mobile.

Important

If you enter an incorrect PIN code three times in succession, the SIM card will auto-matically be blocked.

1.2 Unblocking your SIM card

You can use the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) to unblock the SIM card and reset your PIN. You will have received a PUK code with your SIM card and PIN code.

Unblocking/resetting PIN 1

* * 0 5 * PUK 1 * new PIN 1 * new PIN 1 # Call key

Unblocking/resetting PIN 2

* * 0 5 2 * PUK 2 * new PIN 2 * new PIN 2 # Call key

(You can also enter your previous PIN code as the “new PIN”.)

Important

Please refer to the special PIN functions in the user guide for your mobile phone.

1.3 Changing your PIN

Change PIN 1 and PIN 2 the first time you switch on your phone. Choose numbers that you will remember easily, but which others cannot easily guess. Change your PINs regularly.

To change PIN 1

* * 0 4 * old PIN 1 * new PIN 1 * new PIN 1 # Call key

To change PIN 2

* * 0 4 2 * old PIN 2 * new PIN 2 * new PIN 2 # Call key

Tip

Keep your PIN and PUK codes in a safe place separate from your SIM card and do not disclose them to third parties.

2. Making calls in Switzerland

Swisscom’s mobile network allows you to make cheaper calls than networks abroad. Make sure you select the NATEL® network for Swisscom to ensure that your mobile phone does not accidentally switch to a foreign network when travelling in border regions. Store all numbers in the international format: +country code, area code (without the zero), telephone number (e.g. +41 79 123 45 67).

A short tone will sound if you dial the mobile number of another mobile provider. Further information can be found at www.swisscom.ch/signaltone

When you call freephone numbers such as 0800..., there is a NATEL® easy connection surcharge of CHF 0.50 per minute. Exceptions: Calls to our 24-hour hotline numbers

0800 55 64 64 and 00800 55 64 64 66 are free.

Customers under the age of 18 are automatically barred from dialling numbers with 0900, 0901 and 0906 prefixes. This call barring can be lifted by contacting the hotline on 0800 55 64 64; however, this requires the written consent of a parent or legal guardian.

3. Your credit balance at a glance

It’s easy to keep your mobile costs under control.

Each time you make a call, you are sent a free SMS showing the cost of your last call and your remaining credit. To deactivate or reactivate this function, proceed as follows:

Activate: * 1 0 6 * 1 1 # Call key

Deactivate: * 1 0 6 * 1 0 # Call key

To help you keep track of your costs, you can also be sent a free SMS each time you transmit data or send an SMS or MMS. This notification provides information about the costs incurred and your remaining credit.

To activate or deactivate the SMS Info function proceed as follows:

Activate: * 1 0 6 * 2 1 # Call key

Deactivate: * 1 0 6 * 2 0 # Call key

You can check your current credit balance free of charge at any time

* 1 3 0 # Call key Alternatively: Call freephone number 00800 55 64 64 66 and select menu option 2. With NATEL® easy xtra-liberty, your SMS notification also indicates the number of free SMS messages remaining until the end of the month.

6. Useful services

Using the COMBOX® and the mobile portal.

6.1 COMBOX®

The COMBOX® is the convenient answering service provided to all NATEL® easy xtra- liberty, NATEL® easy liberty and NATEL® easy liberty uno customers.

It will accept calls if:

> You don’t answer within 20 seconds;

> Your mobile phone is switched off, or you are in an area where there is no reception; > You are already making or receiving a call.

Retrieving messages from your own mobile phone in Switzerland and abroad

There are two ways of listening to your COMBOX® messages:

1. The COMBOX® number +41 79 499 79 79 is preset as quick dial key 1 on your phone and is also stored in your handset’s phone book under COMBOX®. In addition to listening to messages, this number also allows you to check your COMBOX® from abroad and takes you straight to your messages.

Example: Press and hold down key 1 or select the COMBOX® entry from your phone book. Your messages will be played back to you.

2. + 4 1 8 6 10-digit NATEL® phone number Call key

English

Note

Messages that you have not listened to are stored for 15 days. Messages that you have listened to are deleted after 72 hours.

Tip

You can set your mobile so that all calls are automatically redirected to your COMBOX® (see chapter 8 “Call forwarding”). This is extremely practical when you are travelling abroad. Calls then remain “domestic” and you do not have to pay any fees for forwarding the call abroad.

6.2 Free SMS for missed calls

You will receive a free SMS for missed calls, if:

> Your mobile is switched off or out of range (e.g. in a tunnel);

> The caller does not leave a message on your COMBOX®, even if you have set one up; > You switch on your phone within 7 days of receiving the call or you move into range

If you read the SMS you can call the person back immediately (either directly by pressing the call key, or via the mobile menu, depending on the model).

Simply text the word STOP to 180 (the SMS will not cost you anything). Deactivation is free of charge and you will be sent an SMS as confirmation.
