Genzyme Biotechnology College Scholarship Program

2015 Program Guidelines

As a member of the Allston-Brighton community, Genzyme, a Sanofi company has established community outreach

programs to benefit the residents of Allston-Brighton. Under the auspices of the outreach program, Genzyme has

established a college scholarship fund to provide financial assistance to students seeking higher education in the Life

Sciences and Engineering.

Eligibility Information for Applicants:

You must have been a resident of Allston or Brighton for the past three years. The three-year residency

requirement will be counted as the three-year period ending June 2015.

You may be a student at any public, private or parochial secondary school; or if you have previously received

a Genzyme scholarship, you may be a student at any college or university.

You must be accepted into an accredited college or university and designate a major in a life science* or life

science-related field, or engineering. *Life Science includes: biology, chemistry, microbiology, pre-med,

nursing, pharmacy, health sciences, physical therapy, nutrition, chemical engineering, etc.

Application and Selection Process:

All eligible students must complete the attached application and submit it with required documents. Complete

packages include the completed application form, listing of extra-curricular activities, essay, academic

transcripts/SAT scores, and two letters of recommendation.

Completed application packages should be postmarked no later than May 15, 2015 to Genzyme, a Sanofi

company, Attn: Community Relations, 500 Kendall Street, Cambridge, MA 02142. Applications received after

this date will not be considered.

A Selection Committee comprised of Genzyme employees and representatives of the Allston-Brighton community will

select the recipients of the scholarship awards. All finalists will be interviewed in-person by the Selection Committee

in June.

The amount of the scholarships will be determined by the Selection Committee and will be based upon essay, overall

involvement and activities, demonstrated interest in the field of life sciences or engineering, recommendations, and

academic performance. The total number and respective amounts of the scholarships to be granted will vary annually

and will be determined by the number of qualified applicants. Scholarship amounts will range from $1,000 to $10,000

each.

Students will be notified of the results by July 1, 2015, and a visit to Genzyme’s Allston Landing Facility

biomanufacturing plant for a tour and luncheon for scholarship winners will be held in July.
