Objective

The Platform Business Unit plans to introduce new subscription options

on 1 October, 2013.

Why?

Align RHEL Packaging with the Open Hybrid Cloud

– Create subscription models that are portable between physical, virtual, and cloud

Complement the RHEL OpenStack Platform

– Incorporate a new member of the RHEL family

Improve Support Differentiation beyond SLA

– Enhance our Good, Better, Best offerings with Life Cycle and Portability improvements

Simplify Selling Motion

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server

Socket-pair OR 2 Virtual Instances (Stackable)

Use case: General purpose and hybrid cloud environments, can be deployed physically, virtually and in the cloud

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters

When RHEL Server is used as a host, the supported use case is up to 4

guests on KVM. These 4 guests can be any supported OS.

Example: If you wanted to run 4 RHEL guests on KVM, you would purchase:

– 1 RHEL Server to serve as the KVM host – 2 RHEL Servers to give you the 4 guests

RHEL for virtual datacenters is the more cost-effective subscription option for

(6)

New Features for 2013: Stacking

Stacking allows customers to combine multiple 2-socket SKUs for systems with

more than 2 sockets

Why:

● Simplify our Base Model, reducing complexity for us, partners, and customers

● Provide flexibility by not forcing customer to identify and commit to hardware model at the time of

sale

How:

● Customers with 4-socket and 8-socket servers can buy multiple socket-pair SKUs (2 & 4

(7)

New Features for 2013: Instanced-Based

Pricing

Allows customer to deploy RHEL as either a 2-socket physical system

(stackable) or two virtual instances

Why:

● Avoids forcing customers to chose deployment model (physical/virtual) at time of sale ● Delivers a SKU model that translates into the cloud seamlessly

● Avoids forcing customer, partners, & sales to count three things (systems, sockets, guests) in the

virtual world where such data isn't often easily available

How:

● Customer is free to choose the deployment environment that is right for them—flexibility is built

into the SKU

● Subscription management tooling support for RHEL 7, 6.5+ and 5.10+
