For more details regarding Families of

Parishes, please visit familiesofparishes.org Dear Friends,

On Monday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. at Divine Child, we as a Family of Parishes will have our

Commissioning Mass with Bishop Battersby. Our Family of Parishes consists of the following parishes:

Divine Child, St. Anselm, St. Linus, St. Sabina and Sacred Heart. All are welcome to attend!

Our Commissioning Mass will be a prayerful, formal and public recognition that God has called us to collaborate as a Family.

I trust that many blessings will be experienced by all of us as we go forward. God is calling us to pray and work together to build His Kingdom. Each of us have gifts that we can share in order to make our Family of Parishes stronger. In doing so, I believe we will be more effective in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others who do not know Him or have forgotten how good God is.

To prepare for our Commissioning Mass, may we each pray for an open heart. We know our Blessed Mother always had a heart open to do God’s will. May we ask for her loving intercession.

As part of our Commissioning Mass, all who are present will be invited to pray a beautiful prayer of Consecration to Mary. While there are many

versions of Consecration prayers to Mary, we will be praying one that Fr. Patrick Stoffer from St. Linus and many other Franciscans pray at the beginning of each new day. We will pray this prayer as our Family comes together for the Mass. You may even want to make it part of your daily prayer.

This is indeed a new beginning for each of us.

After having reviewed and discussed all the Family names that were submitted by parishioners, the priests from our Family decided on a name which was submitted to Bishop Battersby for approval. It is a beautiful name that reflects our hope for what lies before us as a Family. We will announce the official name of our Family at the Commissioning Mass.

I hope you will be able to join us on Monday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. for our Commissioning Mass.

May we keep each other in prayer!

God’s Peace and Joy, Fr. Bob McCabe, Moderator This is a reminder of the clergy in our Family of Parishes:

Fr. Bob McCabe, Moderator/Pastor of Divine Child

Fr. Ken Chase, Pastor at Sacred Heart

Fr. Jim Lopez, Pastor at St. Sabina

Msgr. James Moloney, Pastor at St. Anselm

Fr. John Dudek, Parochial Vicar at Divine Child

Fr. David Pellican, Parochial Vicar at Divine Child

Deacon Robert Calleja, Permanent Deacon at Divine Child

2021 Tree of Lights Advent Project

sponsored by Sacred Heart-Divine Child St. Vincent de Paul

100 percent of all monies directly help our “needy neighbors.”

Please pray for the poor.

The Tree of Lights project is an opportunity for parishioners from both parishes to honor special people in your life, living or deceased.

For a $10 donation per name, lights shine on a parish evergreen throughout the holidays, beginning the Fourth Sunday of Advent through the Feast of Baptism of the Lord. The Tree of Lights evergreen is located near the outdoor gathering space behind Sacred Heart Church (Military side). If requested, we will provide you with an ornament as a remembrance, or to present in honor of your $10 donation.

All persons honored will also be listed in both churches’ bulletins (Sacred Heart’s Guardian and Divine Child’s Infant) toward the end of the holiday season.

Enclose the bottom of this flyer, along with cash or your check written to SVdP Sacred Heart/Divine Child into an envelope marked “Tree of Lights.” For convenience, place envelope into collection basket during Mass. Or, you may deliver your envelope in person to the Parish Office, or mail to:

Sacred Heart Parish Office, Tree of Lights, 912 S. Military, Dearborn MI 48124

Sacred Heart School News

Bringing the music back!

T

he beginning of this school year has been jam-packed with fun and the return of many musical activities here at Sacred Heart!

Being back in our own space, students are able to explore music in a more hands-on way compared to last school year. Our PK-8 students worked on

“Instrument Rotations,” where they worked with various unpitched percussion instruments

(triangles, drums, etc.) and learned the ins-and-outs of ensemble work. Students learned about balance, timing and collaboration as a group to create an improved sound.

Beyond just music class, our middle schoolers are participating in band as a combined group after a year off. It’s an awesome opportunity for students to improve their skills as young musicians outside of the general music classroom.

And, of course with the most exciting time of the year upon us, all of our students are working hard to prepare music for the holidays.

After a simple year, all the hustle and bustle is a welcome change for the Sacred Heart music

program!

Eucharistic Adoration

Come, let us adore Emmanuel, God with us!

Eucharistic Adoration is on Mondays, following 9 a.m. Mass and ending with

closing prayer at 12 p.m./noon.

Remembering those devoted to Eucharistic Adoration

Since 2001, Sacred Heart Parish has offered Eucharistic Adoration. Here is a list of those who came at a scheduled hour each week to spend time with Jesus present on the altar.

They all have since passed on to eternal life.

As is the tradition of the Catholic Church, we pray for the repose of their souls.

Advent Giving Tree returns this year

An Advent collection to benefit the Pope Francis Center (PFC) will help to outfit 300

backpacks for homeless persons at Christmas. There is a need for specific sized items. You are invited to take an ornament, purchase the item requested and return it by Sunday, Dec. 12.

You will find the tree near the Courtyard exit and ornaments will be on the tree by

Thanksgiving morning.

We look forward to helping the PFC with this project.

Optionally, you can help our sister parish, Sacred Heart Detroit, by dropping a marked envelope with your

cash/check into the Sunday collection. Look for envelopes near the Courtyard exit.

Stewardship notes from AOD:

First Sunday of Advent (Nov. 27/28, 2021)

As we begin this holy season of Advent, we should consider taking inventory of our lives. In today’s Gospel from the evangelist St. Luke, Jesus tells of the signs associated with the end times.

For faithful disciples, though, Christ reassures us:

But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your

redemption is at hand. In other words, stand firm in your faith before the Lord when He comes again in glory and power.

St. Paul reminds the Thessalonian

community, and us, that our Lord strengthens us to love God and one another — to be blameless in holiness before Him.

Faithful stewards acknowledge that

expressing evangelization through stewardship as a way of life deepens our quest for holiness.

As we prepare for Christ’s birth, avoid the

busyness of the “holiday season” by making time to read Scripture daily and attend Mass

frequently to receive Holy Communion.
