Daum Museum of Contemporary Art
The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art opened in 2002 on the Sedalia campus. Its permanent collection of abstract paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, and sculptures created since the mid- 20th century has grown to over 1,500 objects through gifts and selected purchases.
› The museum’s namesake, the late Dr. Harold F. Daum, was a retired radiologist and avid art collector. He gave life to the museum by donating his 300-piece art collection and funds toward its construction.
› The Daum receives operational funding from SFCC; exhibitions and activities are also funded through various grants and generous donations of arts patrons and memberships.

Meeting Workforce Needs
A study conducted for the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and industry found there is a “skills gap” between what business and industry need and the skills employees have. People who work with employers to select industry locations said, “It is increasingly difficult for manufacturers to find skilled and semi-skilled labor, such as machinists, welders and maintenance technicians. Demand for these positions is outstripping supply.”
SFCC offers these programs and others, and they include short-term skills and professional certificates that lead to associate degrees. Many of our students leave SFCC with multiple job offers and salaries starting at more than $50,000 a year. Simply put, these programs lead to good-paying jobs.
To meet the critical workforce training need in SFCC’s service region, construction will soon begin on the Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center and a portion of Fielding Technical Center will be renovated. These two projects will increase the college’s capacity to deliver workforce training by 200 percent and increase enrollment by at least 120 percent in career and technical areas.
The Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center will provide expanded lab and classroom space for welding, precision machining and industrial technology training along with leadership, supervisory and logistics skill building. Space for a new pre-apprenticeship program also will be in the center. Fielding Center renovations will provide a Center for Excellence to include a climate, refrigeration and energy control (HVAC) lab and advanced manufacturing and robotics lab.
