Seniors, if you or your parents would like help in paying for college, you need to read this! Read about the scholarships below. They are in order of deadline dates. * Indicates that this is new information that has been added. I will send out a “REMIND” text every time I update scholarship information.

ONGOING…

1. Generic Scholarship: Get from your counselor

2. Varsity Tutors: $1000; a monthly scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for entries. Interested students can enter the contest here: http://www.varsitytutors.com/college-scholarship

3. Go to your chosen college’s website and look for Scholarships or Financial Aid that they offer.

JANUARY, 2016

Texas Engineering Foundation Scholarships – Must be majoring in engineering and enroll in an ABET accredited engineering program. Get information and application from Mrs. Willeford or go to

National Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship- $500-$5000; Must be planning a career in government service. Requires a 300-word essay. Go to www.gwcf.org for application.

Carr P. Collins Scholarship for Baylor University Students - $5000+, renewable for 3 years; Must be admitted to Baylor University and have a minimum score of 1250 on SAT (Critical Reading and Math) or a

Texas Student Housing Scholarship – Will award full or partial cost of an off-campus room for 1 academic year in Austin, College Station or Denton, Texas. This scholarship rewards academic and leadership excellence. Get application from Mrs. Willeford.

*Eastman Chemical Company Scholarship: Eastman will pay tuition for at least 2 semesters if applicant studies Process Technology,

Industrial Maintenance, Instrumentation or Welding. Mrs. Willeford has the application.

FEBRUARY, 2016

Dallas Jewish Community Foundation - $500-$10,000; A variety of scholarships can be found at this website. You only fill out one

application and you can qualify for several scholarships. Students of all faiths are welcome to submit an application. Go to www.DJCF.org

Playing with Purpose Scholarship - $2000; Open to varsity athletes who maintain a minimum of a “C” average and are a committed follower of Jesus Christ. Apply at www.playingwithpurpose.org

4-H Opportunity Scholarship - $1000; Must be a 4-H member. Find out more information at http://texas4-h.tamu.edu

Austin Bank Scholarship - $500-$2500 (27 awards); This is a great scholarship for GHS students! You will have to write an essay. Get application from Mrs. Willeford.

*Stephen F. Austin State University: “Smith-Hutson Schoalrships”;

$17,500 a year for 4 years; for incoming freshmen who have financial need and academic potential. Ask Mrs. Willeford for the application.

Abe and Annie Seibel Foundation - Interest-free loans; Must be in top 10% or have a minimum 1500 SAT or 22 ACT score. Call 409-770-5665 for more information.

East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) – Does not specify the $$ amount, but says there is money available for students who want to major in mathematics. Get the application from Mrs. Willeford.

* Cherokee County Electric Cooperative Scholarship: $1000 (30 awards); Must be a child of a person currently receiving electric service from Cherokee County Electric Cooperative. Can get application from Mrs. Willeford or www.cceca.net

*East Texas Communities Foundation Scholarships: This website has a multitude of different scholarships. Go to www.ETCF.org

(Click on Scholarships, Students, Student Guide & Available

Scholarships). Click on the scholarship name, read the instructions and determine if you are eligible to apply. If you want to apply, click Access Application to be taken to the online application system. You will be asked to create a log in and password. Write down this information so you will remember it.

T. J. C. Scholarships: Tyler Junior College has several scholarship including general scholarships, performance –based scholarships and the Presidential Honors Scholarship. First, you have to apply to TJC and obtain a student ID#. Then apply for these scholarships at

East Texas Professional Credit Union McLauchlin Scholarship:

$2000; Must be pursuing a degree in education. The applicant or

immediate family member must have an account at this credit union. To join the credit union, a minimum $5 deposit into a savings account is required. Get scholarship from Mrs. Willeford or go to www.etpcu.org

East Texas Professional Credit Union Presidential Scholarship:

$1000; Open to graduating seniors pursuing a degree in any field. The applicant or immediate family member must have an account at this credit union. To join the credit union, a minimum $5 deposit into a savings account is required. Get scholarship from Mrs. Willeford or go to www.etpcu.org

North & East Texas Press Association 2016 Scholarship - $1500; Must major in journalism/communications/photojournalism. This is a local scholarship and someone from GHS should get this! For

information and application, either get this from Mrs. Willeford or find it on GHS website under “Scholarship Information”.

Career and Technology Association of Texas Scholarship: Students must have completed at least 3 credits in CTE courses and currently enrolled in a CTE course for the fall or spring semester. For application,

GENERIC SCHOLARSHIP

One of the most important scholarship forms that you need to fill out is the Gladewater High School Generic Scholarship application. You can get this from your English teacher or from Mrs. Willeford. The

application will make you eligible for all the local financial help that our community offers through businesses, organizations, clubs and

individuals. This is how most of our students receive money, so don’t miss out!!
