All-State Audition Etudes 2021

All Students will be required to start their audition by playing a Chromatic Scale which should be performed to the most accurate and practical speed/range of your ability, tongued up and slurred down.

Students will then be expected to play all etudes for the instrument as described below. Keep in mind the tempo markings are suggestions; students are encouraged to play the etudes as accurately as possible regardless of tempo. Due to the Global Pandemic, Percussionists will perform their Chromatic Scale on a xylophone, the Snare Etude, and a mallet sight reading exercise on xylophone. Each etude described below is accompanied by the first and last measure they are to perform in order to assist you. The audition books are attached at the end of this document.

Students may audition on as many instruments as they like with Director approval. Each audition, however, must be accompanied by a separate application fee to reserve their slot. Piccolo is a separate audition from flute and needs to have a separate audition time slot. In theory a student could audition once on every instrument in the band if they so wished as long as they paid for the slots.
