STANLIB Linked Investments has always sought to offer value and convenience. But our vision to be a leading Linked Investment Provider in South Africa requires that we do a lot more for our clients and advisers.
We are committed to offering the right products at the right price to help clients achieve their financial goals. Partnering with financial advisers and their clients, we have refined our product range and administration, introduced a comprehensive smaller range of underlying funds, relooked our pricing and introduced a range of tools for financial advisers and their clients. When structuring an investment portfolio, you can combine Collective Investment Schemes (unit trusts), Model Portfolios, Personal Share Portfolios, structured products and Exchanged Traded Funds (ETFs) in one contract.
All Linked Investment Providers are required to be licensed and are registered financial service providers with the Financial Services Board. Linked Investment Providers are also regulated by the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS). STANLIB Linked Investments has all the necessary licences and approvals and is independently audited.
Our Toolbox
Good advice requires knowing your client, knowing the products and knowing the regulations; and then advising on and implementing the best solution. These areas exist independently – in the past it has been left up to you to make sure each requirement was met and each need fulfilled. STANLIB Linked Investments believes we can make this process easier. Getting from the need to the final product requires a great deal of analysis - we have developed a number of tools to help you with this analysis.

Saving for a Goal Calculator
Helps determine if your clients are on track to meet their savings goals
Our Savings Calculator is designed to help you plan your clients’ savings goals. It gives you an indication of how much they need to save, how long they need to save for or if they would have saved enough by a given date.
How to use the Calculator
1. Select what you would like to calculate (e.g. how much your client needs to save monthly to achieve his goal). 2. Complete the required fields.
3. Click “Calculate” to calculate the result.
Please note the Savings Calculator is for illustration purposes only.
Retirement Savings Calculator
Helps determine if your clients have enough money to enjoy a worry-free retirement
Use our Retirement Savings Calculator to determine if your clients’ financial plans are on track to provide them with enough savings in their retirement. Decide on how much money they need to withdraw each month during their retirement, and, with the help of our calculator, determine whether they are saving enough or whether they need to save more to play catch-up.
How to use the Calculator
1. Complete the required fields.
2. Click “Calculate” to calculate the result and display a graph.
The graph shows how long your clients’ savings will last in their retirement. It also shows how the scenario changes when taking different inflation numbers into account.
Risk Profile Analyser
To help you analyse your clients’ risk profiles
The Risk Profile Analyser assists you in determining your clients’ tolerance to risk and how that relates to their particular investments. As your clients’ personal circumstances change over time, you should periodically review their profile with them to ensure it remains current.
You should use the Risk Profile Analyser as a guide and not a substitute for a detailed financial plan.
A risk profile does not take into account your clients’ individual investment objectives, existing financial situations or particular needs, which should all be considered before making an investment decision.
How to complete the Risk Profile Analyser:
1. Answer every question in the form by selecting the appropriate option that best matches your client’s personal situation. 2. Total up the marked points (the form is points based).
3. The total points will determine your client’s risk category.
Regulation 28 Calculator
Assist you in determining the Regulation 28 status of your clients’ investments
Due to the restricted availability of the required comprehensive data necessary to assess compliance on a full look-through basis, this tool only assesses compliance to Regulation 28 on the very broad asset allocation parameters.
With the Regulation 28 Calculator you can:
• Check if a fund is Regulation 28 compliant • View the asset allocation of your client’s funds• View the asset allocation for your client’s entire retirement investment (e.g. the Classic Retirement Annuity Fund) • Determine if the retirement investment is compliant or breaches a particular asset class, e.g. equities. If the investment
is breaching a particular asset class, you can adjust the fund split until the investment is Regulation 28 compliant.
Income Drawdown Tool
For investments in our Equity & Linked Life Annuity and Classic Investments - gives a breakdown of the
projected gross income on your clients’ investments before they commit to a drawdown percentage
The Income Drawdown Tool provides a projection of the expected cash flows when a desired income amount, the income growth rate and any fees that are charged on the investment, are entered. It also displays a graph with your client’s projected available income and the remaining capital balance. Fees and taxes are taken into account.Equity & Linked Life Annuities – Why the income drawdown amount is so important
Current legislation allows investors to select an income level of between 2.5% and 17.5%. They can also select a wide range of investments in respect of the capital that will generate the income.
The level of income they select is not guaranteed for the rest of their lives and may not be sustainable if: • They live longer than expected. This may deplete their capital significantly before their death; or
• Their return on capital is lower than that required to provide a sustainable income for life. You and your client need to ensure that the income level they select will be sustainable for the rest of their life. To achieve this, you, in consultation with your client, need to carefully manage the income drawdown relative to the investment return on their capital.
Linked Investments Annual Charge Valuator
To help you determine the most cost efficient platform for your clients’ investments
The platforms currently on offer at STANLIB are:• STANLIB Linked Fund Range • Classic Range
• Select 50
How to use the Valuator
1. Complete the required fields, i.e. Client Name, Client ID Number, Investment Type, Investment Amount and Adviser Service Charge.
2. Insert your client’s selected funds and the percentage splits (this must add up to 100%) in the table.
3. The table will display the fund charges, the net effective platform charge, the financial adviser service charge and the lowest cost solution, e.g. STANLIB Linked Fund Range.
How to use the Tool
1. Enable the macros in the tool.
2. Complete the required fields for the Investor, Financial Adviser, Investment and Fee sections. 3. Note the additional selections, e.g. Income Gross of Tax or Net of Tax.
4. Click “Calculate”; a table with the projection of Capital, Income (Gross of Tax), Returns, Tax, Fees and Income (Net of Tax) will display until age 95. A graph will also display with the Capital Balance Remaining and Income Withdrawn. Once happy with the output, you can generate the proposal which includes the table and graph.
Risk vs Return Calculator
Assists you and your clients in selecting appropriate funds for their investment portfolio
Once you have determined your clients’ risk profiles and asset allocation mix, you need to guide them in selecting an appropriate mix of investment funds. The STANLIB Risk vs Return Calculator can assist you in the fund selection process. The tool allows you to compare various funds’ risk profiles and historic returns on a single graph over 1, 3 or 5 years. It also plots clients’ overall portfolios on the same graph, to ensure they understand the risk vs return profile of their mix of investment funds.
For each fund plotted, the risk is the standard deviation of the returns over the selected period, whilst the return is net of fees on the classes stipulated. With regards to the overall portfolio return, it is the weighted average return of all the funds based on the various weightings, whilst the risk is based on the weighted standard deviation and covariance of returns between the funds.
How to use the Risk vs Return Calculator
1. Select the funds and percentage weightings that need to be included in the calculation. Accept the notes and disclaimers. 2. The graph will illustrate the Risk vs Return profile of each underlying fund as well as the overall portfolio. You can change the
time period to 1 year, 3 years or 5 years. You can also change the funds by selecting “Change Funds”. 3. Download the output, by selecting “Download PDF”.

Investment Review Report
Assist you in your investment reviews with your clients
In the fast-changing world of investments it is necessary to review your clients’ investments on a regular basis. In addition to the changes in the environment, there may also be changes affecting your clients’ investment objectives, risk profiles and time horizons.
The Report consists of the following sections:
Cumulative Cash Flow vs Market Value
This chart shows two series of values plotted together. The cash flow series is a cumulative measure of the gross net investment, which includes all investments (inflows) and withdrawals (outflows). This measure explicitly excludes any fees that are incurred, interest on pending investments, and distributions made in respect of each fund. The market value series indicates the actual value of the investment over the specified period and is calculated by the number of units multiplied by market price per unit. Market movement has no effect on the cash flow value, but any changes in cash flow – together with investment market fluctuations – will have a subsequent effect on the market value.
Asset Allocation at a certain date
This section provides a table detailing the asset allocation of your client’s funds in the investment including the effective allocation of the overall portfolio. This chart is very useful when you are checking the overall investment position, comparing it to the required asset allocation.
Statements
We provide the following statements:
Valuation Statement
• Shows the value of your clients’ investments at a particular date in time
• You do not have the option to select a date range; you may only select a particular date in time
Summary Statement
• Shows the value of clients’ investments at the beginning and the end of the selected statement period • You have the option to select a date range
Detailed Statement
• This statement is in addition to the Summary Statement. It includes detailed transactions that took place within the selected statement period, for all funds in your client’s investment
• Shows the Rate of Return (RoR) over the statement period if it is less than one year, and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) over the statement period if it is one year or longer
• You have the option to select a date range
The growth since commencement/period can be calculated using the investment details section below.
The calculations are: Growth Over Period =
Closing Balance
- Additional investments for statement period - Additional Adjustments for statement Period
+ (Withdrawals incl. charges and decrease in unit adjustment for statement period * -1) - Opening Balance
Growth Since Commencement =
Closing Balance
- Initial Investment Amount - Total additional investments - Total increase in unit adjustments
Top Holdings of Portfolio
This section contains a table and chart detailing the significant investment holdings for the overall investment portfolio. This information is very useful in analysing the effect of diversification when investing across a number of different funds.
Sector Allocation of Portfolio
This chart and table provides a snapshot of the overall investment position according to the different market sectors. This information is also very useful when determining which economic sector the investment is weighted towards and is helpful in checking whether your client is too heavily weighted in one specific sector.
Portfolio Performance
The performance chart shows the price of the entire underlying funds indexed to a 100 from the beginning of the time period. You are able to see how the funds in the investment have been performing historically. The benchmarks for each of the STANLIB funds have also been included as a comparison.

Fee Comparison Tool
Determines the fees your clients will pay if they switch to the STANLIB Linked Fund Range
The Fee Comparison Tool compares your clients’ current fees on the Classic, Select 50 or Select 40 fund platforms with the new STANLIB Linked Fund Range.
How to use the Tool:
There are four sections in the Fee Comparison Tool:
• Search – You can search for an existing Linked Investment by inserting a STANLIB ID, Client Name or Investment Number
• Investment detail – Once your client’s current investment portfolio appears on screen, click “Investment Number”. A table will display detailing your client’s current funds and the fees
• STANLIB Linked Fund Range – This section will populate with the same funds in your client’s current investment portfolio - if they are available on the Linked Range platform. If some of the funds are not available in the STANLIB Linked Fund Range, please choose another fund or funds. You can do this by clicking “Add”
• Fee Comparison – Once your client’s investment portfolio adds up to 100%, a “Compare” button will appear. Click “Compare” to compare the fees on your client’s current range with that of the STANLIB Linked Fund Range The Fee Comparison Tool is available on STANLIB Online in Tools & Calculators section.
