Felicianas Chapter Coffee
Enjoy an opportunity for OLLI members and guests to socialize and learn about the craft of a local wood carving artist, Mr. Henry Watson at First Baptist Church (12404 LA Hwy 10) in St.
Francisville. People have come from all over the U.S., bringing old photographs of their homes for Henry to recreate on wood. His three dimensional works of art are carved with a chisel and mallet on old cypress and depict a unique art-form in an incredibly, creative manner.
Henry Watson was fifteen years old when he started wood carving at Livonia High School in an art class. He watched his instructor carving, decided he wanted to master the craft, grabbed a screwdriver, and went to work. It did not take him long to discover that a screwdriver would not work, so he picked up a chisel and has used a mallet and chisel ever since to create his works of art. He refers to himself as “The Woodcarving Artist on False River!”
