WHAT IS CISV?

CISV is a global community of dedicated volunteers, creating opportunities for all ages to experience

the excitement and enrichment of cultural diversity through our educational programs. We are founded on our belief that peace is possible through friendship – and that the real difference can be made by starting with children.

CISV provides a wide range of unique, education group activities, which develop cross-cultural understanding in children, youth and adults from around the world. By encouraging respect for cultural difference and the development of self-awareness, CISV empowers each participant to incorporate these values into their lives as they become global citizens and strive for a more peaceful world.

CISV ROCKY MOUNTAIN DENVER

CISV Rocky Mountain Denver is one of 21 chapters of CISV in the United States and is one of the fastest growing chapters in CISV USA. Since its founding in 1999, CISV Rocky Mountain Denver has sent hundreds of delegates to programs all over the world and has hosted international delegates from many of the member nations of CISV International. CISV has grown from 55 participants representing 9 nations in 1951 to more than 100,000 program participants from over 70 nations. Today, over 9000 participants learn to live and work together in peace and friendship in

approximately 200 multi-national CISV programs each year. This summer, CISV RMD will be hosting a

Village for forty eight 11 year-olds and twenty four adults and young adults. We are also hosting a Youth Meeting for thirty to thirty five 16-18 year-olds from all over the world.

OUR PROGRAMS – THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF GLOBAL FRIENDSHIP

At CISV we believe in building global friendship, starting with children. But that’s not where it stops. While the Village program for 11 year olds is the cornerstone of our educational philosophy, it’s just the first building block. We also offer a range of multicultural experiences to youth and adults, providing the opportunity to experience the CISV philosophy and live our values. Find out more about

our exciting programs for all ages: MORE INFORMATION

WHAT IS A CISV VILLAGE?

The Village program is a four week international camp that is the flagship program for CISV. At each Village, twelve "delegations" from different countries travel to one location to live and learn

together. Each delegation consists of two 11 year-old boys, two 11 year-old girls, and an adult leader. Each Village also has a trained staff and six junior counselors aged 16-17. The delegations that attend this multilingual and multicultural experience participate in a purposeful mix of

educational and cultural activities with emphasis on cooperative global and intercultural living. Day by day, the children learn that despite national or cultural differences, they have more in common as

members of the human family in an increasingly interdependent world. WHAT IS A CISV STEP UP (F/K/A SUMMER CAMP) ?

The Summer Camp, now known as the Step-Up program is a 21 day Leadership Camp for 14 or 15 year-olds. At each program, in addition to the trained staff, nine delegations from nine countries come together to live and learn together. Like Village, each Step Up delegation consists of two girls, two boys and an adult leader. Each Summer Camp focuses on a specific educational theme while encouraging participants to take responsibility for leadership and program planning.

WHAT IS A CISV INTERCHANGE?

Interchange is a family group exchange between two International CISV Chapters. Each delegation consists of six to ten children of approximately the same age (12-15) and equal genders and an adult leader with larger Interchanges also having a Junior Leader aged 18-20. Interchange takes place in two phases with one delegation visiting another country and then reciprocating by hosting the delegation from the country they visited. Interchange encourages a deeper encounter between two cultures by placing young people within the families.

WHAT IS A CISV YOUTH MEETING?

Youth Meetings are short camps of either 8 or 15 days which are attended by delegations of six children aged 12-15 or by individual youths aged 16-18 or 19+. Youth Meetings focus on individual themes as well as reinforcing core CISV values and building leadership and organizational skills. WHAT IS A CISV SEMINAR CAMP?

Seminar Camp is a 21 day program for up to thirty participants aged 17-18. Participants develop their own themes and agenda to explore issues and form opinions about individual, international and
