Seller Insight
Situated in the glorious Cambridgeshire countryside, just five miles north of the beautiful cathedral city of Ely is Littleport, a thriving village that boasts a good selection of shops, a couple of cosy pubs, a primary school and a station that operates a regular service into central London. Portland Lodge, an extremely attractive and very large family home that was built in 1990, occupies a superb location on the edge of the village and enjoys far reaching views of the rolling farmland beyond.
The current owner purchased the property just a year after completion and he says that it was a combination of the uniqueness of the design and the stunning location that proved to be the biggest selling points. One enters the house into a huge reception hall – the focal point of which is an individually designed indoor garden – and that space then leads seamlessly through to the open-plan kitchen and dining room with floor-to-ceiling window that brings in a lovely view of the garden. The main sitting room has been positioned on the first floor to make the most of the magnificent outlook, and in fact throughout the house there are huge arched windows, numerous sets of French doors and a large balcony that were each added to create a wonderful connection between inside and out. The result is a fabulous family home that has a tremendous feeling of both light and space.
Outside the property boasts a family-friendly garden that has been designed with ease of maintenance in mind. The kitchen, the dining room, the hall and even the downstairs bedroom all have French doors that open onto a large patio terrace and then the rest of the garden is laid to lawn. The whole space is edged with a combination of high fencing and a mature hedge, so not only is it extremely peaceful but it’s very safe and secure and enjoys a fabulous degree of privacy.
Favourite Room: The standout room in the house is without doubt the huge main sitting room. It’s double aspect so enjoys a stunning outlook, and the room features a contemporary glass fireplace, which provides a beautiful focal point.
Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: Portland Lodge enjoys a location where one is able to enjoy the very best of both worlds. Nearby Ely has a fantastic array of shops and amenities, there is an excellent choice of local schools and the very good transport links make it easy to get just about anywhere.
Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): The master suite is positioned just off the main hall on the ground floor, which gives it a wonderful feeling of privacy. It boasts a large en-suite bathroom and two sets of French doors that open straight out onto the patio terrace.
What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: It is the unique design of the house and the splendid location that really set this house apart from the rest, and although very beautiful throughout, it has a wealth of potential to be further enhanced.
