Case Study: The Royal Society (London)

New development in .NET: Business analysis, design, development and support.

The Royal Society is the pre-eminent organisation supporting scientific advance.

As part of its activities the Society manages a substantial funding programme for the benefit of researchers. Due to the popularity of the various grant schemes the decision was made to invest in a modern replacement for the existing grant management system.

The replacement project was awarded to MSM based on the strength of our quality management system and our understanding of the business needs.

We worked closely with the Society’s staff to deliver the project within the budget of £225,000. The Society is so pleased with the result that it is now re-selling the database to other similar grant-making institutions.

MSILM are one of the world’s leading insurers with UK turnover of £350M last year. Excepting their underwriting system and a key piece of middleware, MSILM have been using MSM for all European software development projects, including support for the last 9 years.

MSILM required assistance with the upgrade of their SharePoint platform from 2003 to 2007. The project involved designing, developing and testing the various components in MSILM’s new MOSS 2007 document management system; delivering new functionality to existing elements of MOSS and then implementing a number of recommendations on SharePoint/SQL Server, in particular on structural and notification changes to mitigate against the risk of stability, performance and scaling issues.

Based on very good feedback from their internal SharePoint team the initial scope of our work was more than doubled to accelerate the project.

Case Study: Eden Project (Cornwall)

Health check of web-based PHP, Flash & Delphi ticketing system leading to taking over support and development.

The Eden Project is one of the largest visitor attractions in the UK. As an educational charitable trust the income the visitors generate is valuable not just as business income but to fund maintenance and ongoing research and development.

A significant investment has been made in ticketing systems over the years. The third party developer of the ticketing system admitted it didn’t have the infrastructure or processes to support such a business critical function, so we carried out a health check, took over support and are responsible for any enhancements.

The system is written in a combination of PHP, Flash and Delphi using a PostgreSQL database.
