History

RIGID PACKAGING SYSTEMS: A CHRONOLOGY

1890s

— Aesculap created the first rigid containers, originally made of stainless steel. In the early 1900s, while responding to the needs of military hospitals and aid stations, Aesculap manufactured chrome-plated containers for safe transport of sterile instruments. Aesculap introduced reusable filters in the

1930s

, replacing valves and sliding vents. Rubber gaskets were added shortly thereafter, to ensure a proper seal between the lid and container bottom.

Since the

1960s

, Aesculap containers have been manufactured from a lightweight anodized aluminum,

which provides optimal heat transfer properties. The lightweight construction also allows for easy handling and stacking. As technology has advanced, disposable, non-woven filters have replaced the textile filters.

At the Association of operating Room nurses (AoRn) Congress in

1980

, Aesculap introduced the concept

of Rigid Packaging for sterilization in the United States. Since that time Aesculap has consistently innovated and improved its products, introducing new generations of containers in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2004.

2010 marked Aesculap’s 30th anniversary of being the first vendor to introduce rigid sterilization container systems to the United States. Since 1980, Aesculap has grown to be the market leader by providing you unparalleled product quality and service. over 3,000 hospitals and surgery centers use the SterilContainer™ System today. Cost-effective quality and

Innovation

PrimeLine™ Lids

PrimeLine Lids feature a reusable filter system and are resistant to scratches, deformation and color fading so your system will look and perform like new over its service life.

The lids are manufactured from a high grade polymer PPSU, polyphenylsulfone commonly known as Radel R.

The lids are offered in six colors and clear. The color coding allows staff to organize instrument sets by specialty for efficient processing. The clear lids allow visual inspection of the instrument set prior to breaking the sterile seal.

PrimeLine lids are available for use in PreVac Terminal Steam sterilization and PreVac Immediate Use Steam Sterilization.

PrimeLine container lids are made of a high-grade, thermostable plastic in six different colors and clear. The special plastic makes the lids resistant against impact, scratches, defor mation and discoloration.

Important processing

advice for PrimeLine™:

• Do not use solvents such as acetone or benzene

• Final rinse with distilled or fully de-mineralized water

• Make certain there are no residues from the cleaning process left on the lid
