A few words from your President… Sharon Kearns

Sharon is unable to send you a message at this time, as your Vice-President, it is an honor and privilege to share a few ideas with you. The South Carolina Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC), is an organization for women, aiding them in maximizing their potential and help them promote excellence. The AAWCC supports and encourages education, net-working, and community involvement for personal growth.

Our chapter organizes a conference annually to promote in the mission of our organization. This Fall’s conference was entitled “Expecting the Unexpected in the Workplace” and was held at Trident Technical College in Charleston. We were inspired as we listened to our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Mary Thornley, President of Trident Technical College, speak on “Woman to Woman: Having an Impact on Others.”

We heard from wonderful speakers urging us to be prepared, to stay healthy, practice safety and adapt to change. We concluded the conference with how to deliver stellar customer service from Dr. Nancy Welch, VP for Student Services at Greenville Technical College.

During the luncheon, three $500 scholarships were awarded to members to further their educational goals. We heard from last year’s three scholarship recipients and were able to see for ourselves the finished wall hanging created by one scholarship recipient’s class project. Contributions made during our Silent Auction will go toward future scholarships for our members.

Thank you to all those that baked, brought food, and assisted with our chapter’s reception during the annual South Carolina Technical Education Association Conference this year! This year our SCAAWCC annual conference will be a one-day conference held in Columbia at Midlands Technical College on October 23rd. Reserve this date on your calendar and plan to attend!

Three Williamsburg Technical College instructors have been selected for inclusion in the eleventh edition ofWho’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Only five percent of the nation’s teachers are honored in each edition ofWho’s Whoand less that two percent are included in more than one edition. The only students invited to submit nominations are those who have distinguished themselves by being recognized for excellence in either Who’s Who Among American High School Students, Who’s Who Among American High School Students-Sports Edition, or the National Dean’s List.
