Course Overview
Spectrum Health is pleased to provide Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support courses. These courses follow the 2010 International Guidelines for Resuscitation published by the American Heart Association Council on Emergency Cardiac Care. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support is a nationally recognized training program designed by the American Heart Association for physicians, nurses, respiratory care providers, pharmacists and other medical personnel. It is designed to provide individuals who possess basic cardiac care skills with cognitive and psychomotor skills for advanced cardiovascular care.
Participants desiring ACLS Certification must have basic knowledge of:

Basic ECG Rhythm InterpretationAttending the ACLS course will build upon this current knowledge base to enhance the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills. Study and preparation for ACLS course attendance is essential.
Group discussion, skill stations, lecture and written evaluations will assist you to demonstrate
your knowledge of Basic Life Support, ECG rhythm interpretation, airway support, electrical interventions, cardiac medications and the AHA approved algorithms for patient management.

Initial Provider Course
•
First day is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—registration from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.•
Second day is 8 a.m. to noon—registration from 7:45 a.m. to 8 a.m.•
Prerequisites: Ability to interpret ECG rhythms and pre-course preparation.Renewal Course

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—registration from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.•
Prerequisites: Current, valid ACLS card and pre-course preparation.•
Participants must bring a current, valid ACLS card to show at registration. Participants who do not present a current card (i.e. card has expired by two months, did not bring or cannot find card) may challenge a renewal course but will not be given the option of retesting. Participants must pass all stations and tests with score of 84 percent or higher the first time. No remediation or second chances offered. If unsuccessful, the participant must register for initial provider course and pay full price.Challenge Course

Challenge Course provides individuals who possess a current ACLS Card to complete ACLS Renewal without participating in an AHA classroom or online course.•
Individuals who possess a current, valid ACLS Provider card are eligible to attempt an ACLS Challenge. Expired cards are NOT acceptable.•
Participants must bring their current AHA ACLS card and current provider manual to the challenge.•
Participants will complete the following skills tests. Skills tests arecompleted one on one with an ACLS Instructor. No remediation or second chances are allowed. There is no option for practice or coaching. The testing session will be stopped at the first point the participant does not successfully complete a required step or action. Participants may NOT re-attempt challenge testing.

Participants should allow two hours to complete an ACLS Challenge Course, and are strongly encouraged to register for a standard ACLS Renewal Course in the same month as their challenge. Registration for the ACLS Renewal Course will be canceled upon successful completion of the ACLS Challenge.•

Initial Provider and Renewal Course size is limited to 36 registrants. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority given to Spectrum Health employees.•
No registrations will be accepted less than seven days before the course.•
Incomplete registrations cannot be processed, and will be returned for completion prior to granting a seat for any course.•
Complete registrations will receive confirmation email or voice mail message.•
Course materials will be sent approximately four weeks prior to course date. If you believe you are registered and do not receive any materials, contact the education departmentat 616.391.9144.
