Is Your Physical Infrastructure Ready

to Meet the Changing Needs of Your

Data Center?

As consolidation, virtualization, and automation become more widely adopted to increase data center efficiency and agility, the elements of power, cooling, asset utilization, and connectivity become a very important factor for operating data centers. This makes physical infrastructure management tools, in conjunction with existing system software management tools, critical to support the changing needs of your data center.

Whether the aim is to reduce the risk of network, systems, and applications downtime, reduce operational costs, support Information Technology Information Library (ITIL) and Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) initiatives, increase sustainability, or ensure regulatory compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), the adoption of data center infrastructure management tools is coming of age…and is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years.

Maintaining real-time monitoring and management of key attributes across speed, power, cooling, and provisioning, as well as the underlying physical infrastructure, is a vital step in this evolution.

Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) solutions provide accurate, automated, and centralized physical infrastructure visibility to help network stakeholders achieve service-oriented goals. These tools enable you to make informed decisions to meet the demanding needs around capacity planning, remote management, and end-to-end service level agreements. This means that real-time information about connectivity, power usage, thermal and environmental conditions, and space will be required to provide complete data center

infrastructure management.

Whether you are building a new data center, or looking to better manage your existing data center environment, Panduit has a solution.

Manage the Entire Data

Center and Enable Logical

Systems Management

Panduit’s Physical Infrastructure Manager™(PIM) Software Platform is

a physical infrastructure management system for tracking the allocation and utilization of critical IT assets within your data center and throughout your enterprise. Our platform lays the foundation for effective Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) through accurate and timely documentation of these physical assets, improved visibility into asset moves, adds and changes (MACs), and process-driven integration with applicable management systems.

Working with PanView iQ™(PViQ)

System Hardware and select third-party devices, PIM™provides an end-to-end

physical to logical view of your data center and enterprise. This helps you reduce the time from receipt of asset to deployment, and allows you to reclaim, re-purpose and re-deploy assets effectively. Unlike manual record keeping, PIM™centralizes the

collection and representation of a rich set of asset attributes such as connectivity, space/port availability, and power/environmentals to ensure that your physical infrastructure supports mission-critical applications, enabling for effective optimization of your data center’s space, power and cooling resources.

Leverage the Information Needed to

Make Meaningful Operational Decisions

Research shows that half of all network problems arise from issues in the physical infrastructure. Yet the physical infrastructure is largely overlooked. Without real-time monitoring and visibility into dense physical layer connectivity and related data center infrastructure information, enterprises are vulnerable to a number of risks such as unnecessary downtime and underutilized resources.

Panduit provides complete visibility of the data center and extended enterprise through intelligent devices and software-based automation, change management and related documentation that integrates with higher-level network management and services desk platforms. This combined approach helps optimize data center operations as enterprises embark on virtualization and cloud computing initiatives.

The PIM™Software Platform is an enterprise class, DCIM tool that combines

connectivity management data with asset tracking, allocation, and utilization information, enabling you to reclaim and repurpose IT assets effectively. PIM™centralizes the collection

and representation of a rich set of asset attributes, such as connectivity, space/port availability and power/environmentals, to ensure that your physical infrastructure supports mission-critical applications, and enables effective optimization of your data center’s space, power and cooling resources.

The PIM™Software Platform offers visibility into:

• Process documentation of IT assets, moves, adds, and changes (MACs)

• Power consumption, temperature and humidity measurement of active equipment • Centralized monitoring of IT assets through a single platform

• Underutilized assets and resources • Unauthorized patch field changes

• Potential physical network security breaches • Root cause analysis of physical network problems • Capacity limits

Panduit’s modular approach to delivering DCIM functionality enables you to customize the solution to meet the needs of your organization both now and in the future. Process-driven integration with your current network management and service desk platforms deliver a streamlined interface to support management of IT assets with related attributes and physical infrastructure components of your data center and extended enterprise.
